Situated between Morristown
and Madison, the leafy Loantaka
Brook Reservation has nearly
10 miles of paved and unpaved
trails that wind through natural,
wooded areas, brooks and wildflowers.
It’s perfect for bicycling,
running, and long walks while listening
to birdsong echo through
the trees. There are picnic facilities
for larger gatherings, as well

the organic Madison Community
Garden is a hive of activity during
the warmer months, with people
busily planting, picking fruits, vegetable
and flowers, and weeding. It’s
heaven for gardeners; most plots
get full sun all day long, assistance
is available from Rutgers Master
Gardeners, and there are community
events throughout the season.
There is even a honeybee yard,
tended by the garden’s beekeeping

Stop and Smell
the ROSES
Historically known for cultivating
flowers in greenhouses and sending
millions of roses by train to
New York City each year, Madison
became known colloquially as
the Rose City. While roses are
no longer commercially grown in
Madison, they have been planted
in many public gardens throughout
the city in honor of its history. Rose
Garden Park, located at Green Avenue
and Kings Road,
is a good place to
