Great Global Greyhound Walk September 24th By Lauren Hirst Do you own a sighthound or are interested in owning a sighthound? Greyhounds, lurchers, salukis, whippets, galgos, podencos, and many others all over the world will be promoting sighthounds as pets and walking on the same day at The Great Global Greyhound Walk. need more practise at getting ready to live as a family pet. Greyhounds do like their own kind and can be quite different to other breeds of dogs. Group walks offer adopted greyhounds and their owners a chance to get together, socialise, and share their love of the breed. There is a saying the greyhound world, “adopt a greyhound, join a cult!” Dogs like Ricky have been waiting such a long time for a forever family. Ricky is a dog who needed more practise coping with the outside world and through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, he’s much improved and more than ready to love someone with all his heart and soul. If Ricky isn’t right for you, we have up to 40 dogs in our kennels – big ones, small ones, bouncy ones, quiet ones and everything in between just waiting to be loved as someone’s pet. Please give us a ring on 01121 426 4810 or visit the website www.greyhoundtrusthallgreen.org.uk to find out more. In 2022, 10,620 sighthounds joined the fun in 432 walks across 29 countries. Greyhound Trust Hall Green was just one of many who joined in at our walks in three locations, Beacon Park in Lichfield, Waseley Hills in Birmingham, and at the Country Park in Worcester. If you’d like to join in check out the GGGW website for a walk near you (www.greatglobalgreyhoundwalk.co.uk). New walks are being added all the time. Group walks are a great way for prospective owners to come and ‘meet the breed’ if you are thinking of adopting a greyhound but don’t know much about them. GTHG walk locally each month on the 1st Saturday in Tamworth Park and the 3rd Sunday in Beacon Park. Both circular walks start at 11am and take about 40 minutes. You may have seen us walking around the Stowe Pool or the Pleasure Gardens. It's also a great way for us to get our kennels dogs out and about to socialise. Greyhounds only know about kennel and track life and our job as volunteers is to get them used to the big wide world outside of racing kennels. While racing, greyhounds won’t have seen bicycles, pushchairs, other dogs who aren’t greyhounds, ducks, geese, or experience the sights and smells of the “real world”. Some take to it without missing a heartbeat while others find it all rather scary and overwhelming and Got a story or charity event you want to share with our readership?
