U11
GIRLS
What a year it’s been for our u11 girls! We started out the year in Dolphin Park on Tuesday
evenings, such great space for the girls to practice properly, possibly also the most
miserable place in the middle of winter but not for our girls because the muddier, the
better! When we moved to Terenure College as the evenings got brighter, we extended
training to include a half hour of running at the start. The girls got so fit, and culminated
their training with the Marlay Park junior run in May, many of them getting personal bests
over 2kms! Throughout the year, their matches became tougher as u11 girls are very
physical and very competitive, but our girls were well able for the challenge, and competed
fiercely against old rivals Judes, Ballinteer St Johns, Lucan, Olafs, to name but a few.
But football is only one part of what we want for the girls. It really doesn’t matter if they
win or lose games, what’s important is that they enjoy coming along to training and
matches, enjoy being part of a team, enjoy spending time with their friends. This is what
will keep them coming back as they move into teenage years and beyond, providing a
balance and an outlet for them.
A big thanks to our sponsor Sigmar Recruitment who have been so generous to us the last
few years. Thanks also to David Behan for providing fantastic goodie bags at the crucial
times! A special thanks to the parents for all of your efforts to encourage your girls to take
part, to bring them to training and matches, to support on side lines whatever the weather
– you can be really proud of what they’re achieving and how much they are continuously
improving. We look forward to seeing them progress even further in the coming years!
Training on Tuesday 7pm – 8pm in Terenure College from April until end of October;
6.30pm – 7.30pm in Dolphin Park from November until end of March; Matches on Saturday
lunchtime. For further info, please contact Dave Connolly on 087 9475539 or Niamh
McLoughlin on 087 2692214
