Experiences in
Argentina
Patagonia
Perito Moreno Glacier
Great wilderness • Awe-inspiring glaciers
Patagonia encompasses endless wild and
windswept expanses, towering mountains and
giant glaciers that sweep down to turquoise
lakes. Guanacos, condors and rheas can be
spotted in the barren landscape of this vast
region that stretches to Tierra del Fuego at the
foot of the continent. Rich marine life abounds
at Peninsula Valdés on the Atlantic coast. Near
El Calafate, the immense Perito Moreno Glacier
is an awe-inspiring spectacle of ever-changing
shades and thunderous breaking ice, while the
striking granite massif of El Chaltén provides
excellent hiking opportunities.
Quebrada de las Conchas, Salta region
The Lake District
Lake District, Bariloche
Forest-clad mountains & lakes • Boat trips
The Lake District is a beautiful region of pristine
forests, deep-blue lakes, rivers and snowcapped
mountains. Relaxing stays to enjoy the
fresh air and stunning scenery can be combined
with a wide range of outdoor activities such as
kayaking, gentle walks or hikes. The alpine-style
lakeside town of Bariloche is the main centre
for exploring the parks and a starting point for
scenic boat trips deep through the lakes all the
way to Chile. To the north, there is a scenic route
through seven different lakes to San Martin de
los Andes, and in the south, the famous Ruta 40
stretches all the way to Patagonia.
Salta & the North-West
Picturesque colonial towns • Striking scenery
Once part of the Inca empire, Argentina’s
North-West is a region of striking natural
scenery and deep-rooted traditions. The high
altiplano, or puna, gives way to arid foothills
dotted with giant cacti, rugged colourful
canyons and shimmering white salt flats. The
city of Salta has beautifully preserved colonial
architecture, while traditional adobe villages
such as Purmamarca, Cachi and Molinos
have changed little since colonial times.
Further south Cafayate, home to high altitude
vineyards, can be reached via a scenic drive
past impressive rock formations.
Andean lakes crossing
This scenic full-day trip, one of the most
spectacular in South America, starts on the
shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi in Bariloche,
traverses the Andes via a series of boat and
road journeys and ends in Puerto Varas in
Chile, or vice versa. Cross shimmering lakes,
wind along mountain roads and catch a view
of Osorno Volcano’s perfect cone.
Mendoza wine country escapes
The highly regarded bodegas around
Mendoza are home to small boutique hotels
and luxurious estates that offer sublime
winelands escapes. Discover premium wines
at on-site tastings, sample delicious gourmet
cuisine, unwind by the pool or indulge in
signature wine therapies. Alternatively, soak
up the full panorama of the vineyards and
the Andes beyond while exploring on foot
or by bicycle.
Visit an estancia
Ranging from working cattle ranches
to elegant country estates, Argentina’s
traditional estancias are dotted throughout
the country. Day trips can be arranged to
enjoy a delicious Argentinian barbecue
or see legendary gauchos (local cowboys)
display their fabled skills, while longer
stays offer opportunities to relax and get
a first-hand insight into local culture and
traditions.
Wildlife viewing at Iberá wetlands
The second-largest wetlands in South
America are home to abundant and varied
wildlife including capybaras, caimans,
otters, marsh deer, howler monkeys, giant
anteaters, anaconda and more than 350
bird species. Explore pristine lakes, streams
and floating islands from remote ecoranches
such as Rincon del Socorro or the
luxurious Puerto Valle hotel.
