Vital Signs
under Control
050.7377
Data centers are a prerequisite for digitalization and have a major impact on
economic development. To ensure that they always function smoothly, it is
essential to measure the ambient conditions correctly with the right sensors.
A key component is the intelligent PDU.
The sensors make it possible to monitor various
parameters, such as energy consumption,
temperature, humidity and access security.
This enables administrators to identify potential
problems and take appropriate corrective
measures at an early stage. The intelligent
from R&M offers efficient integration. The
connection to the network means that all
sensor data can be displayed and monitored
on the web interface.
Real-time monitoring of energy consumption
is of fundamental importance when it comes
to planning how the racks are to be equipped
with servers. This is because overloading the
power line can lead to significant problems
and, for example, cause failures or safety
risks. This is why measuring the energy consumption
in each rack using smart PDUs has
become established in the industry. Critical
threshold values can be detected and alarms
triggered if need be. This may be the case, for
example, when a rack is expanded to include
additional active servers.
Indispensable for safe operation
Servers not only need sufficient power but
also an optimum operating temperature and
humidity to be able to work efficiently. This
is where temperature sensors such as the
EMD31 come into play. These sensors record
environmental temperature and humidity at
specific points and are connected to the
sensor socket of the ActiPower 4.0 PDU via
an RJ45 cable.
For added security and control, the EMD31
sensor allows the connection of two additional
digital sensors. For example, a moisture
sensor cable can be laid in the floor/raised
floor in order to detect water leaks from cooling
units in good time and prevent potential
damage to the infrastructure.
The security of the data center also plays
a prominent role and access to sensitive
areas must be strictly controlled. Among
other things, door contact sensors are used
to ensure that the lockable rack doors are
properly closed after access.
