Hosting a bonfire night event can be lucrative for your business but it is essential that your event is<br />

planned carefully, both before the event & during to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible.<br />

! SAFETY FIRST !<br />

Fireworks should be purchased from a<br />

reputable supplier:<br />

• Category 1: Indoor fireworks<br />

• Category 2: Garden fireworks<br />

• Category 3: Display fireworks – for use in open areas<br />

• Category 4: FOR USE BY PROFESSIONALS ONLY<br />

Allow a space of at least 50m x 20m for your firing area<br />

Around that you will need a dropping zone of 100m x<br />

5m (downwind direction).<br />

Keep spectators back at least 25m on the opposite side<br />

of the dropping zone.<br />

Ensure your site is away from buildings, trees &<br />

overhead cables.<br />

Wait at least half an hour before approaching a failed<br />

firework.<br />

Never use flammable liquids on a bonfire!<br />

Don’t burn dangerous rubbish & never put fireworks on<br />

a bonfire.<br />

EVENT PLANNING<br />

Ensure you employer’s liability & public<br />

liability insurances cover your event.<br />

Choose one person to oversee the event.<br />

Make staff easily identifiable during the event<br />

with at least one steward per 250 attendees.<br />

Make sure that staff know where safety<br />

equipment is located.<br />

Discuss your plans with your local council &<br />

notify other authorities such as the fire brigade<br />

& police in advance.<br />

WINTER WARMERS<br />

Keep your customers happy with warming<br />

comfort foods – chilli, slow cooked meats or a<br />

hog roast are sure to be popular options.<br />

A winter BBQ would also be a great choice –<br />

think tasty handheld foods such as burgers &<br />

hotdogs.<br />

FAMILIES MAKE SALES ROCKET!<br />

Target families with your offering – why not<br />

bring in a face painter or offer toffee or<br />

chocolate apples to appeal to the children?<br />

WARMING DRINKS<br />

Run special offers on winter-spiced drinks to<br />

strain into a highball, with ice.<br />
