Finishing Yearbook 2024

Welcome to the 46th edition of the Finishing Industries Yearbook – the essential guide for everyone involved in the UK surface treatment industry. Each year I write a little note about the events of the past year, and how they have affected the industry. Like most my age we only seem to recall the difficulties faced over the past year. However, it is always good to read how the industry circumnavigates each situation. We hope that you find this edition an invaluable aid to sourcing suppliers to provide the solution to your specific needs. It is used by the whole buying chain from trade finishing houses to manufacturers of a wide variety of products from white goods to automotive. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses that have contributed to the compilation of this yearbook. If you have any comments, suggestions or would like to be included in the next edition, please email me at b.williams@turretgroup.com. The Buyers’ Guide categories have been updated this year with the new headings of “Lubricants/Grease” and “Solvent Recovery’. In the Regional Guide, there is the new category of “Chemical Etching & Etch Inspection”. The Finishing Industries Yearbook Team & Finishing Industries Magazine Team wish you all the very best for 2024!

Ferrozinc relaunches in 250ml packaging
HMG Paints, a leading
manufacturer of high-quality
coatings and paints, is excited to
announce the relaunch of
Ferrozinc, a revolutionary waterbased
rust converter. With its
exceptional performance and ease
of use, Ferrozinc is the go-to
solution for rust conversion in areas
where shot blasting, or complete
rust removal is impractical or
impossible.
“Ferrozinc has been a popular
product for our customers for a
number of years and we’re proud
to introduce the new 250ml size”
commented James Burton of
HMG. “It’s such a handy product
for users in a number of industries
from decorators and industrial
applicators to agricultural and
classic vehicle restoration.”
Traditionally, rust removal has
been a laborious and timeconsuming
process, involving hours
of wire brushing or the use of
strong acidic chemicals that pose
significant safety hazards. With
HMG's Ferrozinc rust converter,
however, this arduous task
becomes a thing of the past. This is
the perfect solution to anyone
working in the decorative or
industrial markets, and even classic
car enthusiasts!
Users only need to remove
loose debris and poorly adhered
surface rust, followed by a
degreasing step to eliminate any
contamination that may interfere
with the chemical reaction.
Afterward, a thin coat of Ferrozinc
is applied to the rusted area, and
within 30 minutes, the surface
transforms into a black/navy colour,
indicating the successful rust
conversion. Any excess product
can be easily wiped off, and after
just +3 hours, the treated surface is
ready to be overcoated with the
user's preferred coating system.
Ferrozinc's water-based
formulation not only provides
excellent rust conversion properties
but also ensures a low odour,
making it a more pleasant and
user-friendly option compared to
solvent-based alternatives.
Ferrozinc is available in 250ml,
1 Litre or 5 Litres and can be
purchased direct from HMG,
shop.hmgpaint.com/products/
ferrozinc) or their nationwide
distributor network.
