Insurance increases cause for concern
Your article about car
insurance states they have
increased by 38 per cent, and for
old people they have gone up 24
per cent. However, I am 74, and
mine with Tower Insurance has
gone up more than 60 per cent
since last year, although I haven’t
made any recent claims.
When I asked why, I was told
it was due to extreme weather
events, as your article states.
They have treated me well in
the past when I’ve had claims,
but this latest increase has made
me wonder if I should look
elsewhere.
I’m now worried about my
house insurance. Prior to the
earthquakes, it was around $300
a year, but since then it has gone
up hundreds of dollars every
year, and got to a point where I
have to scrimp and save all year
to pay the premium. If it goes
up by the same percentage as
the car insurance has, my next
premium, which will be due in
January, will be well over $3000.

Crusaders squad
On the subject of the recently
announced Crusaders squad
for the 2024 season, great to
see the return of 150-plus game
Crusaders great Ryan Crotty.
Back for the first time since
2019 after playing in Japan, he
will add much on and off the
field. Welsh international Leigh
Halfpenny likewise.
Lots of great young players
there too. Noah Hotham, Macca
Springer etc who will build on
their experience of this year’s
campaign.
Fergus Burke had a great
season for the Crusaders and
Canterbury. His return from
injury around April will be
eagerly anticipated. He has a big
chance for higher honours at
national level.

about Dave Grohl saying next
time they’d play for free – they
totally should!
I mean I’m actually pretty
happy they’re at least coming
to Christchurch, as last time we
weren’t on their list but, yeah,
it’d be pretty damn cool and
awesome if Dave turned around
and honoured this grand gesture
as he is probably the nicest,
coolest guy in rock and roll in
my opinion and they have some
very loyal fans here in NZ.
