The 38yearoldisrunning a series of twohour Raising an Intuitive Eater interactive workshops for parents looking to improve the diet of their children. The last one was in Methven on November 12, while the next will be in Ashburton on December 1. Originally from Czech Republic, Prazak undertook her postgraduate nutritionist studies in intuitive eating and eatingbehaviour therapy. From workshops held to date, she had been encouraged and delighted by the feedback she received. Parents shared their own experiences with food and how they wanted to instil good habitsintheir children. Prazak said the workshops were not designed to give parents alecture on right and wrong, but rather to take the pressure off the thinking they always have to get it right. Between them, they have bought and wrapped presents for 39 children they do not know. The children are aligned with the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group in Mid Canterbury. Inner Wheel member Wendy Smith said giving to the support group’s children was an annual highlight. ‘‘All the women in the group who come to Inner Wheel, they just picked out aname and chose agift for that child,’’ Smith said. The support group’s coordinator Karen Kilgour is herself raising her three grandchildren, aged six to nine. She said she was ‘‘blown away’’ to see the beautifully wrapped parcels dropped off to her home last week. The 39 children, aged two to 16, would receivethe presents this Sunday at Grandparents Raising Grandchildren’s festivelunch in Ashburton. ‘‘It’s wonderful,’’ Kilgour said. ‘‘These ladies are the best, some of these kids don’t get a lot of stuff, so it’s areally nice gesture.’’ She said the number of families helped by the Mid Canterbury support group had climbed from about 15 when she began in her role five years ago, to 28 today. This was in line with a national increase in grandparents raising their grandchildren.
