Blinds & Shutters - Issue 1/2024

As we begin 2024 there is some hope that the economy may be turning round. Interest rates look set to fall and we may have just about avoided recession. Will this mean that households will have more to spend on their homes? Let’s hope so. In the next few months the biggest show for the blinds and shutters industry is taking place in Germany. R+T promises to be a great place to see new products and trends for the industry, plus a chance to catch up with colleagues and buyers. It is well worth the hop over to the EU to see what is going on. Good luck and best wishes in 2024, I hope you have a successful year!

opposite direction, as curves come back in
people’s houses. If you’re a fan of the trend,
incorporating curved elements couldn’t be
easier: try painting an arch on a wall for a
perfect accent detail, or, if you feel
particularly DIY, you could even try building
it around an existing doorway. If you choose
to do it yourself, you'll only need to buy the
materials such as plywood sheets, concrete
and paint, which can add up to as little as
£60-70, while to have this done by a
professional you'd need to invest around
£450!
Moreover, if you have plans for a bigger
project, you could think of modifying your
stairwell with softer, curvier lines, as
Pinterest data show that it’s an ever-growing
trend,
Furniture-wise, you could visit your local
used goods market and charity shops in
search of curved sofas or armchairs,
bedframes with sinuous lines, or a particular
softer vase.
3. Unleash Your
Creativity: Revamp Your
Living Spaces with
Unique Tiles
Adding colourful and weirdly shaped tiles
to your kitchen, bathroom or wherever
you’d like them most, is another way to
make your home stylish and unique, and if
you choose stick-on tiles, the update can be
renter-friendly and easy to install.
Pinterest trends show how searches for
“bathroom tiles” and “kitchen tiles” have
been high throughout the year, testament to
a classic and undying trend that can add so
much to your home for fairly less.
To do this, Porcelain Superstore can help
you figure out the prices and the styles that
might work best for you, as their site lists
backsplash tiles for as little as £18.90!
4. Coastal Grandmother
Aesthetic: Bringing
Serenity to Your Home
on a Budget
Neutral tones, blues, and greens: the
coastal grandmother aesthetic has been
taking social medias by storm, and you might
have noticed that that’s what you’ve been
looking for, but how do you achieve the
style in your house on a budget?
As the aesthetic is all about simplicity and
order, pillows and throws can be a great
detail to start from, as a new cream or
beige pillowcase can be as cheap as £4. The
same goes for striped white and light blue
throw or tea towels.
TikTok creators who have coined and
popularised the term to describe it have
compared the style to the vibe of Nancy
Meyers movies, which have regained
popularity. In fact, searches for “Nancy
Meyers” have started to climb again, rising
316.66% at the end of the summer.
5. Embrace the
Maximalist Movement: A
Year of Kitsch Prints and
Vibrant Hues
Are you a fan of kitsch prints and bright
colours? Then this is your year to shine, as
Pinterest trends data show that the time of
minimalism and clean mid-century modern
style is over, giving way to maximalist trends.
Searches for the term “maximalist décor”
peaked at 85.18% in March 2023, remaining
fairly high throughout the year.
To achieve the style without breaking the
bank, consider adding a fresh set of bright
tiles to your backsplash, as mentioned
above, or covering your living room and
hallway walls with an elaborated wallpaper.
6. The Ultimate Plant
Decor Hack: Combining
Real and Faux for Style
and Savings
Transforming your house into an indoor
garden might make your home worthy of
magazine covers. However, authentic fake
plants can be pretty pricey, as they can be
found on Amazon for prices as high as £90
for more classic styles and as high as £1000
for more exotic types.
To avoid this, the logical solution would
be to adopt natural plants, which are
cheaper but require maintenance and care.
If you’re up to the challenge, the satisfaction
of keeping green friends alive is priceless.
To make the job easier and spread the
costs, you should do both and hide cheaper
faux plants among real ones, elevating the
whole setting.
7. Lighting Up Your
Space: Lampshade Ideas
As not all homes are blessed with natural
light, finding lamps that fit your aesthetic is
important, and while not everyone can
afford big, noisy chandeliers which we know
are in vogue this year, it’s still possible to
brighten up a room without emptying your
wallet.
If you’re looking for an idea that is easy,
cheap, and even renter-friendly, search no
further, and think about switching the
lampshades of your home for ones that are
more to your taste: you could search in
charity shops, on Etsy and other online
shopping sites.
