ACTIVE EXPLORERS LEESTON
We believe that for children to thrive, they need to
be nurtured and respected through relationships
and a curriculum of intentional care and teaching.
Our Explorer Class (under 2) is a haven of warmth
and care, with a teacher-to-child ratio of 1 to 4. Our
youngest learners are nurtured through all their
first milestones by a caring, calm and experienced
team, in a purpose-built environment featuring
both inside and outside learning spaces.
Our Discovery Class (2 to 4+) is our biggest class.
Here routines and a curriculum of discovery begins,
thoughtfully and intentionally facilitated with
our individual children’s interests and learning in
mind. The curriculum is Reggio Emilia-inspired,

We offer an inspirational place of learning that
nurtures and celebrates enquiring minds. We
strongly believe in a play-based curriculum
that aligns with Te Whare Tapa Whā and
grows children’s capabilities across all holistic
dimensions; cognitive, physical, emotional,
spiritual, social and cultural.

The Preschool/Nursery room
Active Explorers Leeston
with the environment as the third teacher. The
large outdoor natural space sparks the children’s
curiosity, discovery and exploration. The large,
grassed area is used for riding bikes, ball games,
obstacle courses and group games. We have

We celebrate Matariki, Māori/
Samoan language weeks, Chinese
New Year, Diwali and other cultural
events. Many of our passionate and
diverse teaching team have been
at our centre for several years.
Whānau appreciate our ideal
location, next to the library and
shopping areas. Regular excursions
to the next door primary school help children
prepare for transition. Email, phone or visit and ask
about our current offers and subsidies. Ideal times
to visit to see the full programme in action are
between 9am and 3pm, but we have an open door
policy to fit your needs.

and routine that helps develop the social
skills, independence and resilience that

of their learning journey. Our learners are
supported to take more responsibility for
themselves, their peers and environment.
Our community excursions and strong
relationships with local schools are key to
connecting them to their place in the world.

Families are important to us, so we offer flexibility
in bookings whenever possible. We also establish
a key caregiver for each child, responsible for their
settling in, routines and projects, and for being the
familiar point of contact for the whānau. We look
forward to welcoming you!
a curriculum that focuses on building foundation
skills that equip tamariki to enter the next stage of
their educational journey with confidence. Much of
the day is free-play focused, allowing children to
explore at their own pace while also guiding their
interests through intentional teaching. Other parts
of the day are more structured, including group
times and meal times.
We create meaningful experiences and
opportunities and build a sense of security and
belonging. We support tamariki to recognise,
understand and express their emotions respectfully
while learning how to initiate and maintain
respectful relationships with others.
