Busy and happy learners
in West Melton
Here at West Melton Kindergarten Nursery
and Learning Centre, children enjoy their
journey of learning and discovery in a
well-resourced, well planned, and loving
environment. We are proud to provide high
quality care and education with a Selwyn
District style!
Close links with school
Being opposite West Melton School,
we have built a strong relationship and
maintain links at multiple levels to transition
our children into school life, whether that
is at West Melton or elsewhere. Our school
leavers are welcome back for before and
after school care too.
At the recently refurbished centre, the
huge natural outdoor area offers multiple
activities including gardening, enjoying
our own bike track, enormous sandpits,
playground structures, nature nooks, cubby
houses, and so much more. It is full of
exploration, discovery and days of fun.
Ages and stages
The Nursery is licensed for 16 children, with
a ratio of 1 teacher to 4 children (a lower
ratio than the Ministry 1 to 5). It includes
a separate sleep room where children
have their own individual beds, creating
consistency and a routine. A notebook is
sent home daily with information regarding
your child’s daily activities, sleeps, changes
and food patterns.
In the Kindergarten section our 2 to
3.5-year-olds are busy learners, making
friends and negotiating as well as
developing their self-regulation skills and
independence. Our teachers are skilled in
helping them develop these life skills, and
also recognise the children’s interests to
develop these in the activities provided.
There is ample space for independent and
small group play.
The Learning Centre is for 3.5 to 5-yearolds.
Alongside a full range of play activities,
children are taught life skills, maths, literacy,
science, listening and comprehension skills,
manipulative and physical skills. They go on
local adventures around West Melton and
an annual larger excursion. The library bus
visits our Learning Centre, where children
board the bus and choose books for the
centre.
Experienced team
We have an incredible teaching team of
experienced Early Childhood qualified and
registered teachers with additional Kaiako
placing us well above staff requirements
and at 100% qualification levels.
We are proud of our centre, our community,
our children and families and we always
have open arms to welcome new friends.
Give us a call or pop in anytime to view our
facilities and meet our wonderful staff.
