LIVE CULTURE
FILMS AND CRAFTS
The mission of the City of Kalajoki cultural services is to provide opportunities for experiencing and making art and
culture. Both municipality residents and visitors are welcome to experience and enjoy the activities of the library,
the Virta-Sali venue and the Havula museum and grounds.
REFRESH YOURSELF IN THE
LIBRARY
In the centre of Kalajoki, the shopping and
cultural centre MERTA offers diverse library
services and the Virta-Sali Hall, which can be
used both as a cinema and a concert hall. Activities
are organised in the hall regularly throughout
the year. You can find Virta-Sali’s event
schedule on the website and can purchase your
tickets through the lippu.fi service.
The versatile library is a place where you can
read newspapers and magazines and enjoy the
services of the Kahvila Kirja café. You also have
access to a 3D printer, game consoles in the
game room, or the digitisation, editing and
composition programmes offered by the media
workshop.
TAKE A BREATHER IN HAVULA
The tranquil milieu of Kalajoki’s old town
Plassi encompasses the grounds of the
Havula museum, located among evergreen
trees. Relax in the idyllic old storehouse
of the museum café or in the garden
in the shade of spruce trees. While relaxing,
you can also acquire skills in crafts by
participating in the Hilkka craft workshops
organised during the summer. You can also
choose from the extensive range of crafts
packages or high-quality decoration and
handicraft products offered by Taito Keski-Pohjanmaa
as souvenirs or gifts. There
are also art exhibitions in the storehouses
on the museum grounds, and music events
are organised throughout the summer.
Guided tours of the Havula museum are
available daily from Midsummer to August,
but you can also visit the museum
at other times by booking a tour from the
Kalajoki tourist guides or cultural services.
The tourist guides also organise guided
walking tours in the Plassi area.
