Iso-Pahkala Ceramics is located by the national road 8 only a few kilometres north
of the Hiekkasärkät holiday area toward Kalajoki city centre.
The Ceramics Shop Iso-Pahkala’s products
are Finnish handicrafts through and
through, from their very design to the finished
product. The functional ceramics and
pieces of art sold in the shop are made in a
workshop across the courtyard, where you
can also make an appointment to learn about
the fascinating stages of making ceramics.
Iso-Pahkala’s modern and traditional ceramics
draw their forms from the nature of
Kalajoki. When you skim your fingers across
the ragged surface of these rustic dishes,
what you feel is genuine Kalajoki sand. You
can also see a piece of Kalajoki’s maritime
landscape in the glow of the popular lighthouse
lanterns.
Iso-Pahkala is a sign of quality. The products
are timeless and durable in every sense of
the word. Ceramics can withstand everyday
use in the dishwasher, oven, and microwave,
but the uniqueness of these dishes, candleholders,
bowls and vases also make them
perfect for special occasions.
The beautiful display in the shop is an attraction
in itself, and the whole workshop milieu
exudes aesthetic appeal. The products from
carefully selected artisans, and marine antiques,
are also an interesting addition. Café
Seili operates in the shop, where delicious
salmon soup is served every day during the
summer alongside regular café products.
Iso-Pahkala is preparing to celebrate its
50th anniversary in 2024. In the summer,
the ceramics workshop will have a special
commemorative exhibition that will transport
viewers on a fascinating journey from
the beginnings of the family business to the
present day.
