PETS & PAWS
Fun, friends and fresh
air for your animals!
What more could you want for your
pets? BARK Kennels and Cattery at 554
Jones Road, Rolleston, have a 4.5ha rural
setting with several paddocks and a
freshwater swimming pool. They offer a
range of pet services, including daycare
for dogs, boarding for cats and dogs, and
other pets and grooming services.
The number of happy dogs is a testament
to the well-resourced facilities and the
fantastic care of the staff. The daycare
for dogs, with its free and flexible (outof-hours)
drop-off and pickup times,
provides dogs relief from boredom,
anxiety, and destructive behaviour at
home, with plenty of opportunities
for socialisation and exercise. BARK
Kennels and Cattery is happy to arrange
a visit to view the facility and offer a free
trial day.
Dogs boarding at the kennels are
well-cared for in regularly cleaned and
covered indoor areas, with active play and
social times during the day. Meanwhile,
cats from young and old are housed in
3 tier-heated individual units in a quiet
place away from the dogs. All the cats can
wander outside into the fully contained
grassy enclosure. You can be assured of
quality care and attention with a live-in
manager looking after your pets while
they are boarding at the facility.
BARK Kennels and Cattery have a
new retail shop with several convenient
products, including worm tablets and
health products, Ashley & Co. dog wash
products, gifts, and designer items.
Make sure your pet looks their best
with uniquely beautiful and exquisitely
crafted hand-beaded collars and leads
individually stitched with glass beads. The
Maasai Mamas of Kenya have produced
these stunning accessories.
Of course, to keep your fur baby (cats
and dogs) looking like stars, Bark Kennels
and Cattery have arranged grooming
services with Master Groomer Bella. With
exceptional grooming results, she has an
amazing way with the dogs. Message Bella
directly on 02108789115 or arrange an
appointment through BARK Kennels and
Pet safety
in summer
Heat can be fatal for pets. If you notice
excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or
vomiting, immediately move your pet to a
cool area and seek veterinary attention.
Here are some tips to protect your pet.
1. Make sure animals have access to
shade. If possible, move enclosures indoors,
relocate outdoor hutches into a shaded area,
hang a covering over the run, or even place
an umbrella over the hutch. Limit outdoor
activities and walks to early morning
and late evening, as surfaces can become
scorching hot and could burn your pet’s
paws. Remember the rule: If the ground is
too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their
paws.
2. Provide constant access to plenty of
clean, fresh water throughout the day. Pop
some ice cubes into the water dish to cool
the water. If you’re walking your pet or
spending time outdoors, take a portable
water bowl to keep them hydrated. Frozen
pieces of fruit or vegetables (such as celery
or apples) make a cooling treat if the diet is
appropriate.
3. Never leave your pet unattended in a
parked car, even with cracked windows.
Temperatures during summer can turn
the vehicle’s interior into an oven within
minutes, leading to heatstroke and possibly
death.
4. A cooling mat or vest absorbs and
dissipates heat and can help your pet
maintain a comfortable body temperature.
Another option is to wrap an ice pack in a
tea towel and place it where your pet sits.
Dogs may love a child’s paddling pool to
bathe in.
5. Regularly groom your pet. Matted
fur works as insulation, resulting in
overheating. However, a shaved pet can
become sunburnt.
We say, give it a try!
