Japan: Japan’s Digital Nomad Visa Plans
Japan: Japans Pläne für ein Visum für digitale Nomaden
The Japanese Immigration Bureau has announced that
it will introduce a six-month visa for digital nomads in
March 2024. The final conditions, benefits and details
of the application process have not yet been finalized,
but the following details have already been announced:
The visa will be non-renewable seni and the digital
nomad will not be able to apply for another digital
nomad visa within six months of leaving Japan
The visa holders can apply for a work visa while
staying in Japan
Eligible applicants must work for an employer
outside Japan and have an annual income of at
least JPY 10 million (approximately USD 66'500 /
EUR 61’300 / CHF 58'500).
Applicants must also be from one of the 49
countries whose citizens are exempted from the
visa requirement for Japan, and they must be from
a country that has a tax treaty with Japan.
The digital nomad must also take out travel health
insurance to cover their stay in Japan.
A certificate of eligibility is not required and the
applicant can submit the application directly to the
Japanese consulate responsible for their country of
residence. Digital nomads are not considered
residents of Japan and therefore cannot open a bank
account or rent long-term accommodation. They are
not liable for tax in Japan. They can be accompanied by
their family members, but are not allowed to enroll
their children in school in Japan.
Die japanische Einwanderungsbehörde hat angekündigt,
dass sie im März 2024 ein sechsmonatiges Visum
für digitale Nomaden einführen wird. Die endgültigen
Bedingungen, Vorteile und Details zu dem
Antragsverfahren stehen noch nicht fest, aber über die
folgenden Details wurde bereits informiert:
·Das Visum wird nicht verlängerbar sein und der
digitale Nomade wird innerhalb von sechs
Monaten nach Verlassen Japans kein weiteres
Visum für digitale Nomaden beantragen können
Die Visuminhaber können ein Arbeitsvisum
beantragen, während sie sich in Japan aufhalten
Berechtigte Antragsteller müssen für einen
Arbeitgeber ausserhalb Japans arbeiten und über
ein Jahreseinkommen von mindestens 10 Millionen
JPY (circa USD 66'500 / EUR 61’300 / CHF 58'500)
verfügen.
Die Antragsteller müssen ausserdem aus einem
der 49 Länder stammen, deren Bürger von der
Visumspflicht für Japan befreit sind, und sie
müssen aus einem Land kommen, das ein
Steuerabkommen mit Japan abgeschlossen hat.
Der digitale Nomade muss ausserdem eine
Reisekrankenversicherung abschliessen, die
seinen Aufenthalt in Japan abdeckt.

Eine Bescheinigung über die Anspruchsberechtigung
ist nicht erforderlich, und der Antragsteller kann den
Antrag direkt beim japanischen Konsulat einreichen,
das für sein Wohnsitzland zuständig ist. Digitale
Nomaden gelten nicht als Einwohner Japans und
können daher weder ein Bankkonto eröffnen noch
eine langfristige Unterkunft mieten. Sie sind in Japan
nicht steuerpflichtig. Sie können von ihren
Familienmitgliedern begleitet werden, dürfen aber
ihre Kinder nicht in Japan zur Schule anmelden.
