NFSP Community COUNTDOWN TO CONFERENCE Get ready to Shape Your Future at this year’s NFSP Annual Conference E xcitement is building. In just six weeks we’re headed to the University of Warwick, Coventry, for the NFSP Annual Conference and Retail Event 2024 and we’re looking forward to welcoming many of you there. We’ve listened to feedback from our members who attended Conference last year and fed this into the planning of this year’s event; aiming to increase delegate participation and deliver more fantastic opportunities for engagement and networking. Our aim has also been to increase the number of new attendees at Conference; offering the chance to members who have never been before to have their say, talk about the issues affecting the network and help ensure tomorrow’s Post Office has a bright future. We are delighted to announce that at this year’s Conference there will be a terrific 40% first-time attendees. This year’s theme and branding has also been informed by member feedback and embraces the idea of Shaping Your Future. This is YOUR QUESTIONS This year’s Conference will feature Your Questions, a panel Q&A on the main stage. You’ll have the chance to put forward your most burning questions about the big issues of the day to our panel, including Postal Affairs Minister Kevin Hollinrake, Post Office Ltd Chief Executive Nick Read, NFSP Chief Executive Officer Calum Greenhow and guest speaker Darren Burns, from the Timpson Group, chaired by NFSP Chair Tim Boothman. We will share footage of the Q&A after the event. something we believe is so important in the current climate. We want to hear what you have to say, understand in greater depth the problems you are facing and have your input and ideas on how we can achieve a stronger and more viable network. RETAIL EVENT We’ll kick off on the Sunday with the Retail Event and we’re delighted to announce this year’s event will see 50% new retail partners exhibiting their products and services, which for the first time includes the Convenience sector. You'll have the chance to speak with our retail partners face-to-face and find out about their exclusive offers and discounts, as well as hear about their ideas and advice for developing your retail business. You’ll also have a fantastic opportunity to meet with representatives from Post Office Ltd and the NFSP Retail Team, Mails Support Team and the Network and Engagement Team. 16 The SubPostmaster April 2024
BREAKOUT SESSIONS This year we’ve introduced Breakout sessions, offering a great opportunity to deep dive into specific topics put forward by members, and engage in interactive discussions to problem solve and share skills, ideas and best practice with our peers. These sessions will be facilitated by Helen Beckingham from Within Reach. Helen brings 20 years of professional experience in industry and leadership roles, working with organisations to create effective business environments. GUEST SPEAKER We are excited to announce our guest speaker will be Darren Burns, the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Timpson Group, as well as being the head of the Timpson Foundation. The Timpson Group is the largest service retailer in the UK employing 5,500 people in over 2,500 UK sites. The well-known locksmith and shoe repair chain of retail outlets also includes Johnsons Dry Cleaners and Snappy Snaps. As a former Police Officer, Darren specialises in Helen Beckingham, Within Reach both the recruitment and retention of ex-offenders and others who face barriers to employment. He also fosters relationships with many UK prisons and organisations such as police and probation services. He is passionate about diversity and inclusion and provides consultancy services for forwardthinking businesses. Darren Burns, Timpson Group JOIN THE CONVERSATION As an NFSP member we’d love you to submit questions for our panel Q&A Your Questions and put forward topics for discussion at our Breakout sessions. Whether you’re attending Conference, or not, we want to give everyone the chance to participate and take a step towards shaping your future. Through member feedback, we have identified seven common themes that postmasters frequently talk about. This is not an exhaustive list, however, we would like these to act as a guide to inspire you when you are putting forward your suggestions. These are: Future of the post office network The role of the NFSP Remuneration and counter services Lobbying and campaigning Banking Hubs How the NFSP can better represent its membership How the NFSP communicates with its membership To send in your questions or a topic for discussion, please email communications@nfsp.org.uk by Friday 12 April 2024. Look out for our post-Conference report in the June issue of The SubPostmaster magazine. This will be an event summary to ensure that members who have not been able to attend are aware of the big discussions, learnings and key takeaways that have taken place and also are informed of insights, action points or next steps that have been generated during the Conference.
