Δ Parra ferry arrives in Sydney: The first new Australian built Parramatta River Class ferry has just arrived in Sydney after passing the ultimate sea test, crossing the Bass Strait. This is the first of seven new Northern Beaches-designed vessels being built by Hobartbased ship builder Richardson Devine Marine. The next ferry in the new Parramatta River Class fleet is just a few weeks behind and is expected to commence builder’s trials in early May. The seven new vessels will replace the RiverCat and SuperCat vessels which will be retired after 30 years of service. Each vessel in the new Parramatta River Class fleet will have a 200-person capacity, while using 40 per cent less diesel and are also future proofed for conversion to electric propulsion when the technology and network infrastructure become available. Δ Have your say: City of Parramatta is inviting residents to have their say on proposed changes to planning controls for 263-281 Pennant Hills Road, Carlingford (formerly known as 263-273 Pennant Hills Road and 18 Shirley Street). The proposed changes seek to allow for an increase of 197 units, a 600 square-metre increase in retail floor space and a new central park. The draft proposal on exhibition will reconfigure the existing R4 High Density Residential and RE1 Public Open Space zones. It will also increase the maximum height of building control from 11-storeys on the Pennant Hills Road frontage to 29-storeys and from 9-storeys on the remainder of the R4 zoned portion of the site to 18-storeys. TURNING BACK TIME This photo shows sailors at the dedication of the K-13 submarine memorial in Carlingford. The service commemorating the unveiling and dedication of the K13 Memorial Park was held on September 10, 1961, with the High Commissioner for the UK Lieutenant General Sir William Oliver in attendance. The inscription on the Memorial reads: ‘This memorial has been created in memory of those officers and men of the Commonwealth who gave their lives in submarines while serving the cause of freedom.
