FROM THE
EDITOR
“
AMAZING
APRIL
Hello and Welcome” to what I hope will be an Amazing April
for Delray Beach residents and visitors alike.
We are still at that in-between stage, where it’s not the
crazy-busy times of winter but not yet the quiet sunbaked
days of summer. But what does it matter? Here in Delray Beach, we still
have an Amazing, action-packed month to keep you busy and entertained.
The 62nd Delray Affair is right around the corner. If you have never attended this festival, you are in for
a treat! Three days of soaking up the Amazing, artistic adventure that the Delray Affair has to offer. Having
received several awards for its eclectic mixture of crafts, great art, and crazy and funky products from around
the world, this event showcases over 500 Artists and Crafters, live music, and food vendors. Mark your
calendars: Friday, April 12, 2024, through Sunday, April 14, 2024.
A Garden Party of Amazing Automotive Excellence, better known as Concours D ’Elegance, will host its third
annual event at Old School Square on April 21st. If cars are your thing, this is not to be missed, and the event
sponsors some great causes.
Other dates to enter into your diary are, the 1st Friday Artwalk, Free Twilight Concert featuring Hot Brass,
Stanley Jordan plays Jimi, a tribute to Jimi Hendrix and One Hit Wonders: A Tribute to those great songs from
the ’60s and ’70s, at Arts Garage plus much much more.
“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” This is a
quote by Anatole France, but you may be led to believe that the Amazing Nicole Grimes, our City Person this
month, wrote it. Nicole is a bit of a whirlwind when it comes to getting things done, and usually for other
people. She truly is an inspiration!
Adiós por ahora, hope you have an Amazing April!!! Cinco de Mayo is not far away!
Ecological Restoration Event
at Atlantic Dunes Park
The Institute for Regional Conservation (IRC), a nonprofit dedicated
to the protection, restoration, and long-term management
of ecological diversity, recently held an ecological restoration event
at Atlantic Dunes Park in Delray Beach. This event was focused on
coastal conservation education and invasive plant removal.
With funding and support from the City of Delray Beach, IRC
and their volunteers were able to remove over 2,000 cubic feet of
invasive Brazilian pepper, as well as snake plant, and carrotwood
throughout the park, in just under three hours. This event was part
of IRC’s Restoring the Gold Coast program which was launched in
2019 and aims to restore native coastal biodiversity in Palm Beach
County by restoring populations of plant species that historically
grew in the area but are currently absent or underrepresented.
According to Liz Dutra, IRC Program Associate, “By removing
nonnative, invasive species we can begin the ecological restoration
process to install native plant species, which will enhance biodiversity
to revive the ecosystem. We are so thankful for the wonderful
volunteers! We would also like to thank the City of Delray Beach
for making this work a priority through their funding and support.”
Celebrating 25 Years of
Student Exchanges with a
New Group of High School
Travelers
Miyazu, Japan, is the hometown of George Morikami, the wellknown
farmer who gave his land in Delray Beach to Palm Beach
County, where it is now the established Morikami Museum and Gardens.
To honor this connection, the City of Delray Beach established
18 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
a “sister city” relationship with Miyazu over 47 years ago, in 1977.
The first student exchange between Miyazu and Delray Beach
took place in 1999. Since then, a group of student ambassadors
from Delray Beach has visited Miyazu every two years to continue
the exchange of cultural understanding and friendship. Miyazu
sends a group of their own student ambassadors to Delray Beach
every two years as well.
Sister Cities of Delray Beach is thrilled to announce that they
will be sending 7 Student Ambassadors to represent Delray Beach
and travel to Japan in June 2024 as part of their ongoing exchange
with Miyazu, Japan. The students selected are Katelynn Foster, Leah
Green, Daniel Halpern and Emily Joseph. They will be joined on the
trip by previously selected ambassadors who were unable to travel
in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.
Sister Cities of Delray Beach has four “sister city” relationships:
Miyazu (Japan), Moshi (Tanzania), Pesaro (Italy), and Aquin (Haiti).
A sister city connection aims to promote friendship and understanding
between citizens by encouraging cultural, youth, athletic
and economic exchanges. Founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower
in 1956,
Sister Cities International boasts over 2,000 partnerships in
more than 140 countries.
CRUISER PALOOZA MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL
If you haven’t thanked your body in a while, it’s time to do so. Being
physically fit and well is something that shouldn’t be taken
lightly. If you do have a physical ailment or condition that makes
your mobility harder, you know just how important it is to have help.
April is Physical Wellness Month and if you have it, share it! The annual
Cruiser Palooza Music & Arts Festival aims to bring the community
together to support local resident, Cruise Bogle, who suffered a
spinal cord injury at the age of 19, leaving him paralyzed from the
neck down. The event not only provides Cruise a tremendous source
of emotional, as well as financial support for his current and future
needs, but due to the growth over the years, it now allows Cruise
to support others in need. He started a non-profit organization, The
Cruisey Baby Initiative, with a mission to substantially change the
lives of people struggling to live a healthy and fulfilling life with a spinal
cord injury. The event features live music from The Resolvers and
Spred The Dub, food trucks, drinks, beer garden, live artist installments,
a cornhole tournament and a silent auction. Tickets are $40 if
purchased in advance and $50 for general admission. Cruiser Palooza
Music & Arts Festival is held Saturday, April 6 from 5 to 10 p.m. at
Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave. Please visit cruisebogle.com/
THE GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP
26 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
We love you, Earth! While Earth Day might be just one day in
April, it should really be every day. In addition to constant
reducing, reusing and recycling efforts that we should be
practicing daily, we can also take steps to help keep our backyard
clean. April is Keep America Beautiful Month, and you’re invited to
get your hands a little dirty to keep Delray clean. The Great American
Cleanup, a project of Keep America Beautiful, is coordinated in
Palm Beach County by Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful Inc. and
the Solid Waste Authority, and everyone is invited. There are events
throughout the month, so pick an event that works best for you and
get out there! The Delray-specific events include a cleanup with the
Trashy Mermaids and Spodak Dental Group on Saturday, April 6, at 9
a.m. at South Tower 3. There’s also an event at the Sandoway Discovery
Center (140 S. Ocean Blvd.) on Saturday, April 20 (Earth Day) at
8 a.m. Both event organizers invite you to head to the beach and rid
the sand of litter. It’s a small effort that yields a big reward, so gather
the family and friends, hit the beach, and then reward yourself with a
morning beach sesh or grab breakfast at Caffe Luna Rosa afterward.
Please visit www.keeppbcbeautiful.org for more details.
GRANGER’S GRILLE | DADA | BEER TRADE
I
don’t care how old you are, there is always a good time to have
a grilled cheese. You can go as basic as plastic-wrapped cheese
squares and white bread or fancy it up with meat and veggie additions
and artisan bread. Regardless of your preference, the end
result is always the same: a happy and full belly. April is National
Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month, and if you’d like to indulge but don’t
have the patience to make a grilled cheese at home (it is a skill), then
head downtown and place your trust in any of our talented sandwich
chefs. Granger’s Grille boasts a master Six Cheese Grilled Cheese for
$10.75. Go crazy and add bacon for $2.50 or tomato for $1, then sit
back, relax and watch the ooey gooey cheese come to you. Dada is
practically famous for their always $10 The Starving Artist Grilled
Cheese Sandwich. Made with sourdough bread and toasted garlic
and served with cream of tomato soup, it’s seriously heaven. If you
want to toast to the toast with a selection of sandwich-complementing
beer, head to Beer Trade. For $16 you can enjoy either their Cuban
Grilled Cheese, Caprese Grilled Cheese or Buffalo Chicken Grilled
Cheese, and more beers than you thought existed. Yep, it simply cannot
get better. Please visit www.downtowndelraybeach.com or call
PASSION IN ACTION
BY DIANE FEEN
FEEN ON THE SCENE
They say passion is the fire that ignites
the extraordinary over the ordinary.
If you look at the best events and experiences in life they are
usually created from passion as a justification for being.
Though our collective consciousness is littered with some
difficult issues today, it is in the name of sanity that
we cling to what is precious or prescient.
One place that puts the sanctity over
the sacrificial is the Coco Market at Old
School Square. Corey Heyman, founder
and genius at cultivating a culture
of kindness, has expanded the good
vibes and healthy fare with free
yoga classes for adults and kids,
live music, food, fashion, healing
vendors and interactive events.
The “Authentic Connection Game”
gave everyone a chance to dance
wildly with abandon by holding onto a
partner. Trust reigned supreme and our
inner child endorphins ran unhindered. It
was also a safe place to dispose of unwanted emotional
baggage or decrease the size one’s inner thighs.
It felt like gestalt therapy with a physically liberating baseline.
The result was pure joy with yoga and self-healing at its core. Come
next month and be enthralled with this healing and energetic flow
of magnificence.
The Festival of the Arts at Mizner had a week of intellectual
and auditory excellence as well. Renée Fleming, the opera
singer extraordinaire ( and Kennedy Center Honoree)
spoke about the importance of music to ones’ health. She
talked about how music lights up the brain and helps
release endorphins for medical conditions like Parkinson’s,
Alzheimer and depression. When feeling
blue try some Beatles or Beethoven and
if that doesn’t work, call me in the
morning.
We couldn’t help but wonder
what designer Isaac Mizrahi
might bring along for the ride
at his Festival of the Arts show.
After all this man has designed
for royalty and Target and is
also very funny. Turns out Mizrahi
has been doing a one-man
show with comedy at its core and
singing as a side dish.
28 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
The designer-singer-TV presenter
wore a black sequined
jacket with huge pearls
around his neck. His favorite
foods he told us, are cheese
and Xanax and he rambled on
about the spandex bodywear he
was wearing.
Glitter and comedy are great foils
for reality and Mizrahi can make you
laugh and marvel at his talent.
The closing night was outstanding – who would have guessed
that a big band like our parents danced to would be so compelling?
But it was. The outdoor venue was packed despite the Academy
Awards presentation the same night.
Conductor Kyle Prescott, pianist Dominic Cheli and our favorite
Trumpet player, teacher and soloist Jeff Kaye turned up the heat
on music from George Gershwin, Benny Goodman and other classic
jazz favorites. Called “100 Years of Rhapsody in Blue,” the music
was a clarion call to a simpler time with a nostalgic upbeat tone.
Though everyone was invited to get up and dance to the music, very
few did so. Who would have thought that jazz and swing classics
would woo the crowd, and the soul of guests? Well, it did folks.
If it’s culture we’re on it – so is local Delray
artist and teacher Sharon Koskoff. If you
haven’t heard of Art in the Alley, then
you should. Ten years ago James and
Lisa Quillian (and Koskoff) decided
the alleys in Osceola Park needed
a facelift (and rejuvenation). So,
they called on local artists to
paint large canvases that were
placed in Osceola Park alleys.
The results have been spectacular.
Not only is the art amazing,
colorful and imaginative, but each
year there’s a party to celebrate the
creative genius of the artists and supporters.
James and Lisa host the event in
their fun-filled leafy green yard, and the art and
great food is on tap. The theme this year was “Save the
Earth.” Sometimes a lazy Sunday can make the earth and
its inhabitants a little happier. And, it did.
Just remember, it’s great to follow your passion, just make
sure you look both ways when you cross the street!
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WE ARE
DELRAY
As we head out of the busy winter season – those months full of
events, company, and activities – and we “spring ahead” in daylight
savings, let’s turn our attention to our homes. This month let’s look
at different ways to freshen your Delray home in Delray style.
Need some plants or flowers? Fresh
greenery always brightens a home. There
are many local nurseries and florists in Delray.
Try Johnny Mango’s, Delray Garden Center,
Bushel Stop, or Mac’s Garden Center. Or
you can make your own flower arrangement
at Once Upon a Daisy. Gather some friends
and take a flower arranging class – fun to
create and enjoy.
Or if you want to plant a few trees for
shade? Contact Community Greening. This
local nonprofit will give you free trees to
plant. They have already planted more than
16,000 trees in Delray & the surrounding
area, and they can help you create some
needed shade at the right price!
Is it time to give some stuff away? Often,
cleaning up and clearing out items brings
the JOY back to a home. Pick ten things you
FLOWER ARRANGING AT ONCE UPON A DAISY TREE GIVE AWAY WITH COMMUNITY GREENING DOG ON THE COUCH
don’t use or wear and donate them to a local
charity. There is a Goodwill in town and
a Habitat for Humanity ReStore that both
make drop-off easy. Plus, your donation will
generate money for great causes that help
our local residents.
Want to restyle a room or declutter a
space? Many times, just rearranging your
furniture can refresh your home. Then give
Tracey Kulp a call at Thankfully Organized.
She will come and help clean out, freshen up
or rearrange what you already have. A great
cost-effective way to freshen your Delray
home in a Delray way!
How about a new pet to warm up your
home? Local shelters and adoption groups
have Delray animals for our Delray homes.
Adding a lap dog, guard dog, cat or bird to
your home can add so much. Most restaurants
in Delray allow you to bring your dogs
for outside seating since Delray is so pet
friendly. It’s a win-win for everyone.
Lastly, how about hosting a gathering?
Nothing makes you feel better than inviting
your friends & family for Happy Hour,
dinner, or breakfast (whatever is your specialty).
Charcuterie boards are all the rage
and can be filled with anything you have
on hand. Pull out your favorite dishes, set
your table and open your door. Entertaining
helps you open your home and your heart
to others.
Most importantly, take time to enjoy the
home you have created in our beautiful Village
by the Sea.
We are Delray and it’s our HOME!
► Monkey Man
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength
and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young
man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club
where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody
by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage,
Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister
elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred
hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the
score with the men who took everything from him. Monkey Man is
directed by the British-Indian actor/filmmaker Dev Patel, making
his feature directorial debut after a few other shorts, also produced
by Jordon Peele.
► Wicked Little Letters
1920s English seaside town witnesses a dark and absurd
A scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a true story
that is stranger than fiction, the film follows two neighbors: deeply
conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish
migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and her fellow
residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally
hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime.
The sweary anonymous letters quickly prompt a national uproar,
and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women - led by Police
Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) - begin to investigate the crime
themselves, they suspect something is amiss, and Rose may not be
the culprit after all. Wicked Little Letters is directed by English theater
director/filmmaker Thea Sharrock. Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley
star as Edith and Rose, respectively, with Timothy Spall, Gemma
Jones, Lolly Adefope, and Anjana Vasan. This does look hilarious!
Seventeen-year-old Tanya Crandell (Simone Joy Jones) can’t wait
gets a job working for the confident and ambitious Rose (Nicole
Richie). Juggling work, family, and a complicated romance, Tanya
faces the responsibility of adulthood at the cost of her summer of
freedom. Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is directed by actor/
► The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Based upon recently declassified files of the British War
Department and inspired by actual events, The Ministry of
Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action-comedy that tells the story of
the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by
UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military
officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit,
composed of a motley crew of rogues & mavericks, goes on a daring
mission using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly”
fighting techniques. Ultimately, their audacious approach changed
the war’s course and laid the foundation for the British SAS &
modern Black Ops warfare. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
is directed by prolific British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, director of
the films Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver,
RocknRolla, Sherlock Holmes, and sequel A Game of Shadows, The
Man from U.N.C.L.E., King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Disney’s
Aladdin, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man, Operation Fortune: Ruse
de Guerre, and The Covenant. The massive ensemble cast features
Henry Cavill as Gus March-Phillips, with Eiza González, Alan
Ritchson, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs
Olusanmokun, Til Schweiger, Cary Elwes, Fisher Stevens, Danny
Sapani, Freddie Fox.
► Hard Miles
uplifting true story of the bicycling team from Rite of Passage’s
Ridgeview Academy, a medium-security correctional school for
juveniles in Colorado. The film follows beleaguered coach Greg
Townsend (Matthew Modine), who rounds up an unlikely crew of
incarcerated students for a seemingly impossible ride from Denver
to the Grand Canyon. Hard Miles is directed by Canadian-Irish-
American filmmaker R.J. Daniel Hanna, who also works as a film
editor, making his second feature film after directing Miss Virginia
The Women
BY KRISTIN HANNAH
From the celebrated author of The
Nightingale and The Four Winds comes
Kristin Hannah’s The Women—an intimate
portrait of coming of age in a dangerous
time and an epic tale of a nation divided.
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old
nursing student Frances
“Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it
is a revelation. Raised in Southern California’s
sun-drenched, idyllic world and sheltered
by her conservative parents, she has
always prided herself on doing the right
thing. But in 1965, the world was changing,
and she suddenly dared to imagine
a different future for herself. When her
brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she
joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows
his path.
As green and inexperienced as the men
sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed
by the chaos and destruction of
war. Each day is a gamble of life, death,
hope, and betrayal; friendships run deep
and can be shattered instantly. In war, she
meets—and becomes one of—the lucky,
the brave, the broken, and the lost.
But war is just the beginning for Frankie
and her veteran friends. The real battle
lies in coming home to a changed and divided
America, to angry protesters, and to
a country that wants to forget Vietnam.
The Women is the story of one woman
gone to war, but it shines a light on all
women who put themselves in harm’s way
and whose sacrifice and commitment to
their country have too often been forgotten.
A novel about deep friendships and
bold patriotism, The Women is a richly
drawn story with a memorable heroine
whose idealism and courage under fire
will define an era.
The Hunter
BY TANA FRENCH
The Washington Post, TIME Magazine,
BBC, TODAY, Lit Hub, CrimeReads, and
more named it the most anticipated book
in 2024.
It’s a blazing summer when two men
arrive in a small village in the West of Ireland.
One of them is coming home. Both of
them are coming to get rich. One of them
is coming to die.
Cal Hooper took early retirement from
Chicago PD and moved to rural Ireland
looking for peace. He’s found it, more or
less: he’s built a relationship with a local
woman, Lena, and he’s gradually turning
Trey Reddy from a half-feral teenager
into a good kid going good places. But
then Trey’s long-absent father reappears,
bringing along an English millionaire and
a scheme to find gold in the townland, and
suddenly, everything the three of them
have been building is under threat. Cal
and Lena are ready to do whatever it takes
to protect Trey, but Trey doesn’t want protection.
What she wants is revenge.
From the writer “in a class by herself”
(The New York Times), a nuanced, atmospheric
tale explores what we’ll do for our
loved ones, what we’ll do for revenge, and
what we sacrifice when the two collide.
10% Happier
BY DAN HARRIS
In celebration of its 10th anniversary,
a revised and updated edition of the
award-winning #1 New York Times bestseller
that changed how we look at meditation
expanded with new material by Dan
Harris.
After having a nationally televised
panic attack on Good Morning America,
Dan Harris knew he had to make some
changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he was on
a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced
pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a
gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris
realized that the source of his problems
was the very thing he always thought
was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable
voice in his head.
We all have an inner narrator. It’s what
causes us to lose our temper unnecessarily, check our
email compulsively, eat when we’re not hungry, and fixate
on the past and the future at the expense of the present.
Most of us assume we’re stuck with this voice—that
there’s nothing we can do to rein it in—but Harris stumbled
upon an effective way to do just that.
10% Happier is now considered a classic text on the
power of meditation, an introduction to the practice that
can convert even the most hardened skeptic. With over a
million copies sold, 10% Happier is the go-to guide, and
with meditation now a widely accepted and encouraged
practice, Dan Harris is a pivotal and approachable figure
in the field who has built a thriving platform based on the
ideas he first presented in this book.
In this 10th Anniversary Edition, Harris offers a new
preface reflecting on how much has changed—for him
and for the public perceptions of meditation. He also includes
a revised and expanded appendix filled with guided
meditations and practical advice for people looking to
kick a habit.
Sorry Not Sorry: The perfect
laugh-out-loud romantic
comedy
BY SOPHIE RANALD
Charlotte has always been a good girl. But being good is
getting boring…
She’s not just stuck in a rut – she’s buried in it up to her
chin. The only company she has in bed is the Netflix back
catalog, and falling in love feels like the stuff of fairy tales.
So when she stumbles across a popular podcast, ‘Sorry
Not Sorry,’ which challenges women to embrace their inner
bad girl, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.
Old Charlotte would never ask for a stranger’s number,
go on a blind date, or buy lacy lingerie… But New Charlotte
is waving goodbye to her comfort zone (with a side
order of margaritas). And it turns out that good things
A fabulously feel-good novel that will make you laugh
HEALTH & BEAUTY | PAIN RELIEF
BY DR. RYAN BAKER
BACK ARTHRITIS ALLEVIATION:
Breakthroughs of
Natural Medicine
Arthritis is commonly known as painful inflammation combined with
stiff joints. But the big question is, why do so many of us end up with
arthritis and can it be avoided? First, let’s understand how it develops.
Arthritis typically starts out as excessive pressure on joints
due to unsupported postures or movements that are not ideal
for the way the body was designed to move. This increase
in joint pressure leads to inflammation at the joint level, which then
leads to pain with movement.
Over time, if this is not corrected the joint cartilage begins to degrade
and wear down. The normal wear-and-tear process that happens
as we age is always going to be there, especially with weight
bearing joints, but the rate or how fast that degenerative change
happens we can influence! A very important part to this is that we
must learn how to move our body well, before moving it often. In
this way we can limit the potential of arthritis developing or progressing
and the extent it affects our daily lives. Beyond our own
awareness of proper movement, it is becoming more and more
prevalent that individuals are seeking natural solutions to their
pain relief with arthritis.
Many have resorted to pain medications, corticosteroid injections,
epidurals and in severe cases, even surgery, but found that
it was not a long-term solution to their pain. With approaches like
this, the main focus tends to be symptomatic relief and not exactly
addressing the root cause, but instead, blocking pain receptors so
one is less aware of the issue. Unfortunately, in many cases the pain
tends to come back, if even achieved at all.
Chiropractors help individuals with arthritic pain by providing
chiropractic adjustments to help facilitate healthy motion into
these joints, that essentially lubricates the joint and can provide
pain relief to movement. Adjustments lower inflammation at the
joint level and as inflammation decreases, pain tends to dissipate
as well. When joint inflammation is significant, more advanced
58 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
therapies like Class IV laser therapy has been found to significantly
reduce swelling and inflammation and achieve pain relief at a much
faster and more effective rate than many other treatment modalities.
It can be a powerful, non-pharmaceutical solution to help reduce
pain without the side effects of medication. For many, this is
still only one piece to the equation.
With chiropractic adjustments to restore healthier joint motion
and mobility and laser therapies to lower inflammation within the
joint then combined with stabilizing the joint with proper movement,
this is a multifaceted approach that can be effective at dealing
with not just back arthritis, but other movement-based aches
and pains for many. Approaches like this typically are administered
over a series of treatments, where sessions build upon the one before
to drive results and progress. The frequency and number of
sessions necessary to achieve pain relief can be different for everybody.
Much depends heavily on the extent of arthritis, how long
it’s been persisting and many other factors that have to be taken
into consideration when developing an effective treatment plan.
Therefore, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional
to determine the best plan of action. Arthritis doesn’t have to be
a hopeless endgame, for many, it is a sign that we need to change,
and given the right tools, it is possible to get back a life without pain
staying in the way.
Setting Priorities
Lead to Positive Change!
Your priorities guide your attention and energy as to what
you’ll accomplish first. If you’re looking to achieve the
healthiest version of yourself, your most important goals
should become your top priorities.
Many people want to change, but they miss the mark because
they are making everything else a priority except for themselves!
So here are some ideas on how to apply these principles to making
lifestyle changes that will last and lead you to be the best version
of yourself!
1
Make the time to set your priorities, it won’t happen automatically.
Schedule your workout a week or even weeks in advance!
Write it down, book it out, pencil it in!
2
3
4
5
Determine what matters most to you. If everything’s a priority,
then nothing’s a priority. Read that again!
Have a ‘Why” that goes deeper than looking good in a bikini.
Superficial goals don’t usually stand the test of time.
Think beyond today. Ensure that your priorities withstand the
test of time and are not too unrealistic.
Get ready to sacrifice. Choices have consequences. Saying “no”
to one thing allows you to say “yes” to another. Sacrifice is inevitable
but will pay off in the long run.
6
Learn to say NO! When you overcommit your time or spread
your resources too thin, you fail to dedicate the attention that
your priorities deserve. Ain’t this the truth!
7
We’ve all heard the saying, “To change your life, you
need to change your priorities” and that couldn’t be
truer when we’re talking about transforming your body.
Maintain balance. Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of
balance. While this may sound simple, it’s not easy. Try your
best to find a good balance that works for you…otherwise it could
lead to burnout.
Make it a family affair! Discuss your goals with your loved ones.
8 If priorities are aligned, you’ll have much easier time accomplishing
your goals!
9
10
Have someone to keep you accountable. This will help keep you
honest and your fitness priorities at the top of your list.
Set little rewards along the
way. It’s a great incentive
to keep moving forward
when the going gets tough. Rewards
can be anything from a
new pair of workout pants or
something along the lines of
a massage. Ahh!
DELRAY BEACH OPEN
Smashes Attendance Records,
Crowns Back-to-Back Champion
and Serves Up More of Everything!
BY LAUREN AZAR | PHOTOS COURTESY OF DELRAY BEACH OPEN
The Delray Beach Open (www.DelrayBeachOpen.com)
continues to top itself every year, fully establishing itself not
only as a world-class tennis tournament, but also as one of the
most prestigious and unparalleled social events of the year.
Celebrating its 32nd year and 26th in Delray Beach, the 2024
Delray Beach Open smashed its own attendance records,
hosted more sold-out VIP events than ever and saw its first
back-to-back champion in nearly 30 years. The 10-day event, which
was held Feb. 9-18, 2024 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis
Center on Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach, Florida, is
the world’s only combined ATP Champions Tour Legends and ATP
250 Tour event peppered with fabulous parties, special recognition
days, clinics, and exclusive events that make its annual appearance
a cultural phenomenon.
The total attendance for the Delray Beach Open this year was an
all-time record 65,000+ with a crowd comprised of local residents
and visitors from across the globe that easily broke 2023’s record
of just over 63,000. ATP players at the tournament represented
twenty-three countries including Argentina, Australia, Canada, China,
Denmark, France, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Portugal,
Serbia, Sweden, Ukraine, USA, and Venezuela.
Defending champion Taylor Fritz dominated the court, defeating
Tommy Paul 6-2, 6-3 to become only the second player to win
back-to-back championships in the 32 years of the tournament.
Last year, Taylor Fritz became the first current Top 10 player to win
the DBO title and did it again this year. With Taylor Fritz at No. 9 in
the world and Tommy Paul at No. 14, it was also the highest-ranked
final in tournament history. This year also marked the first time in
tournament history that all four singles semifinalists were American,
and the fourth time for an all-American final.
On the doubles side of the draw, the third-seeded team of Julian
Cash of Great Britain and American Robert Galloway captured their
first ATP Tour title together and individually by stunning top seeds
Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and Neal Skupski of Great Britain. In
his trophy acceptance speech, Cash said that he was inspired by
countryman Skupski to play doubles. Galloway is the first American
doubles champion in Delray Beach since the Bryan brothers won
their final career title in the 2020 tournament.
The Delray Beach Open is also known for its generosity in the
community, and this year’s tournament hosted clinics for partners
Love Serving Autism and ACEing Autism. Opening weekend also
saw the return of USTA Florida Kids Day.
The 2024 Delray Beach Open promised more of everything –
more tennis, more parties, more fun – and it certainly did not disappoint.
Off the court, there was more to do, see, eat, drink, watch and
celebrate than ever, including more special events, an expanded
hospitality area, and additional food and drink options. Over thirtyfive
local restaurants participated, and sold-out parties presented
attendees with an array of entertainment options off the court, including
two new events, “Burgers, Bourbon and Brew” and a Championship
Weekend Brunch.
Kicking off the week was the tournament’s 16th Annual Chamber
Bash & Box Series Holders’ Reception, presented by Baptist Health
and sponsored by BlueIvy Communications and Carlton Fields, which
welcomed members of Delray Beach and Boca Raton Chambers of
Commerce and the tournament’s series box holders to a fun evening
The VIP Reception offered Delray Beach Open’s partners and
VIPs tasty treats by VIP Caterers. The sold-out Ladies Day Luncheons
returned, sponsored by Lucky in Love, Blonde Alchemy,
Float 8, Raeburn Winery, Stoli Vodka, and Charleston Bloody Mary
Mix, and included more than just lunch, with Stadium Court seats to
the day’s tennis matches, wine, Bloody Mary’s, Stoli Cocktails, raffle
prizes and gift bags included in the ticket.
“Tacos, Tequila and Tennis,” presented by Dano’s Tequila, returned
for its second year and guests got to sample some of the best
tacos around while enjoying Dano’s Tequila cocktails, wine (from
Raeburn Winery) and beer (from American Icon Brewery) at the
on-site Hospitality Pavilion. Guests got to vote for the best tequila
cocktail and best taco. A portion of the proceeds benefitted local
non-profit Love Serving Autism.
The tournament’s premiere event, Game, Set, Pour – billed as
the ‘Ultimate Pairing event’ – served up an array of sampling from
some of the best local restaurants and craft breweries in the area.
A portion of the proceeds benefitted KulaCares, a crowdfunding
platform that connects teachers to the supplies and resources they
need. For a complete list of the partner restaurants and beverages
With the success of “Tacos, Tequila and Tennis” and “Game, Set,
Pour,” the Delray Beach Open added another instantly popular tasting
event called “Burgers, Bourbon and Brew,” which had guests
sampling burgers and voting for their best burger, while sipping on
beer, wine, and bourbon cocktails from Redwood Empire Whiskey,
Kentucky Owl Bourbon, American Icon Brewery, The Cove Brewery
and Betty Booze. Burger competitors included American Icon
Brewery, American Social Bar & Kitchen, The BBQ Boutique (who
took home the judges and patrons award for best burger), M.E.A.T.
Eatery and Taproom, MOOYAH, Poblano South, and VIP Caterers.
Finally, the first-ever Championship Weekend Brunch was held
on Saturday of finals weekend and featured an upscale brunch
complete with an omelet station, waffle iron, charcuterie table, raw
bar, caviar, sushi, gourmet salad bar, bottomless Bloody Mary’s and
Mimosas, and much more.
More food and beverage options and an expanded 21,000 sq. ft.
hospitality area meant guests could enjoy additional food choices
and more off-court seating. Brand-new LED video screens glowed
on Stadium Court, making it even easier to keep track of the action
and made every game feel like a party. Along with DBO favorites
like Guaca Go, Proper Ice Cream, That’s Amore Pizza, Subculture
Coffee and Mark’s Bistro were new additions, A Kitchen Empanadas
and The Knosh Deli. Signature cocktail, the Stoli Slice, boasted a
new twist of sparkling strawberry lemonade with Stoli Vodka. And
all fans were able to keep their water bottles filled to the brim with
the all-new water hydration stations provided by the tournament’s
Official Hydration Partner, waterdrop®.
“We aim to get bigger and better every year,” said Adam Baron,
Executive Director of the Delray Beach Open. “And this year, we really
focused on what we could offer the fans that would improve
their experience. The enthusiasm of the crowd every single day and
night combined with the record-breaking attendance confirmed
that we did it right!”
With all the new offerings and additional events, it’s tough to
predict what tournament organizers will come up with next. So,
before we see what they have up their sleeves next year, fans are
encouraged to book early for the 2025 Delray Beach Open, returning
February 7-16, 2025. In the meantime, stay tuned to www.
INNOVATIVE PSYCHIC SOLUTIONS
Your Future Awaits with
Nicole’s Intuitive Insight
BY NICOL JENKINS | PHOTOS COURTESY OF INNOVATIVE PSYCHIC SOLUTIONS
The moment your session starts with Nicole, your life will be
changed for the better. All your worries melt away, and you feel
an instant sense of calmness as you breathe in Nicole’s positive
aura, making you feel at ease and know you are in good hands…
Nicole is truly a gifted psychic with 37-plus years of experience
and expertise.
The gift that she has is shown in her readings. Unlike
most psychics who probe and ask their clients questions before
reading their palm or tarot cards, Nicole doesn’t do that before a
reading. She only asks her clients if they want any other guidance
after the reading. This is where you will be amazed and telling your
friends: “How did she know that?”
Her response to being so accurate: “I read the energy from a person,
and I use the tarot cards as a map, the lines of a palm, and their
date of birth and connect all areas to detail a reading or something
going on in the near or far future.”
Nicole goes beyond just getting a reading about your past, present
and future. She truly cares about her clients’ well-being and wants
them to have a happier life. Nicole acts more as a psychic intuitive
counselor. She has guided many people in the areas of love, family,
finances, health, marriage, and negative surroundings. She has also
helped on matters that concern people the most, such as decisions in
love or reuniting relationships, business, money, and family problems.
To the skeptics, she says having an open mind before a reading
is important. “When I am doing a reading, I want the person to be
relaxed so I can hear what they are trying to achieve. It’s more than
just getting an answer about their career or love life; it’s about trying
to heal that person in terms of mind, body, and where they will
be going in their life,” said Nicole.
Rather than just answering a question about your life or relationships,
Nicole gives direction. She advises clients to use natural remedies
and tap into their own psychic abilities. “If someone wants
to get a relationship back on track, I direct them to tap into their
spirituality to get control of their future. My clients are not just getting
a reading, but I’m helping them get a day-to-day perspective of
their thoughts. I tell them to focus on the positive; it is truly about
what you put out into the universe,” she said.
The local psychic has impressed many with her readings. She has
a vast array of clientele throughout the U.S. and internationally. She
has been hired to do readings at the Standard Hotel, Chloe fashion
show, Bloomingdale events, and on ESPN radio to predict the winners
for the NFL. She has been voted Best Psychic by the New Times
and was recently featured on Siesta Keys, to name a few of her accolades.
Please check out her Instagram.
She offers palmistry, tarot card readings, handwriting analysis,
reiki healing, chakra balancing, “cord cutting sessions, and past life
regressions. She also offers FaceTime or phone sessions. Nicole
says that her FaceTime readings have gotten very busy since Covid,
and phone sessions have taken off. She finds them to be very successful
because the client is in the comfort of their own home. The
energy of the clients is more relaxed and much easier to read.
Clients can buy quartz crystals, scented candles, tarot cards, incense,
aromatherapy oils and bath salts, spiritual healing guides
and more. Nicole is also available for readings at private parties,
birthdays, holiday parties and events.
“I find it rewarding when people come back and tell you about
their predictions and that they did come true. Also, to see their appearance
and attitude towards life and different situations change,
it is rewarding to know that you made that positive change in their
life,” said Nicole.
Let Nicole predict your future and guide you in the right direction.
MOTORCARS OF PALM BEACH
Your Luxury And
Exotic Boutique Dealer!
BY NICOL JENKINS | PHOTOS BY MELISSA KORMAN
Ben Ripstein’s passion for cars has taken him from racing around
the United States to owning a successful car dealership in the
suburbs of Chicago for a decade. With a wealth of experience in
the automotive industry, Ben excels at guiding customers through
the intricacies of buying or selling their vehicles.
At Motorcars of Palm Beach, located in the heart of Palm
Beach County in Delray Beach, Ben’s business specializes
in pre-owned, low mileage, luxury, and exotic vehicles. The
showroom boasts an exquisite collection, featuring everything
from Ferraris and BMWs to Bentleys and Porsches.
As you step into their office, you’ll be welcomed by a friendly
staff and a stunning showroom showcasing the finest luxury and
exotic vehicles. Ben, the owner, can often be found engaging with
customers, answering questions, and providing personalized guidance
without any pushy sales tactics.
“I decided to get into the car business because of a passion for
cars. Owning several vehicles, buying, and selling my own collection

as well as racing around the country, I have
met a lot of people that shared the same passion
as myself with cars. I began selling cars
on the Internet in 2008 in a small warehouse,
and eventually expanded to a 30,000+ square foot building. Then
in 2018, I started another business that helped other dealerships
sell inventory through the auctions. With all the expertise I learned
through the years in 2021 I decided to move to South Florida to
open the doors of Motorcars of Palm Beach.
Every vehicle in their inventory is meticulously hand-selected
and thoroughly inspected by the owner before being offered for
sale. We take pride in offering a great selection of competitively
priced vehicles in various price ranges. Thanks to Ripstein’s other
business, Cash Now Auto, he stumbles across some great preowned,
low mileage, extremely affordable vehicles. If you’re looking
for a reliable car for a college student or a luxury vehicle for
cruising Atlantic Avenue, they have financing and warranties available
to suit your needs.
In addition to Motorcars of Palm Beach, the company also provides
other complementary businesses and services:
detailing services, including paint correction, high-speed
buffing, and Ceramic Coating using brands
GEM of Palm Beach: Is your local Gem Franchise
Dealer featuring low-speed, street-legal
vehicles. Gems are permitted on roads with a speed limit of 35 mph or
under. Different from a golf cart, Gems are designed for the road, not a
golf course. Gems have roll-over protection, front-facing seats, as well
as many other safety features that a golf cart doesn’t have.
Cash Now Auto: An automotive buying company offering instant
cash offers, beating out companies such as CarMax and Carvana.
Cash Now Auto typically beats most offers by $1000.00. Two convenient
locations: 2201 W Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33445, as
well as 1202 S Dixie Hwy, Lantana, FL 33462. Cash Now Auto, We
Pay MORE than the Max!
Ben’s commitment to customer service extends beyond the
showroom, with active involvement in the local community through
sponsorships of charitable causes. Motorcars of Palm Beach has
been praised by customers for its outstanding service, with a focus
on transparency and satisfaction.
“At the end of the day, our motto is on customer service more
than anything. Our customers have become our family,” said Ben.
“What makes us unique is you can’t replace experience. I have
been in the industry for over 16 years, and I understand the luxury
exotic car market and pride myself on being a specialist in
the business.”
As we celebrate three years in business, Motorcars of Palm Beach
looks forward to being an integral part of the Delray Beach community
for many more years to come.
of experience, Lauren emphasizes the profound impact that pampering
oneself can have on overall wellness. From boosting confidence
tiny, micro-molecular pigment particles that penetrate deeply into
the hair shaft, creating vibrant and pure colors. The low Ammonia
and MEA percentages, combined with Eufora’s exclusive Micro Molecular
Technology, result in a versatile palette of colors that can be
used individually or blended in a hybrid approach. Infused with Aloe
and enhances the hair strand during the coloring process.
Indeed, the physical benefits of spa treatments are numerous.
Facials, another staple of spa visits, offer not only skincare benefits
but also promote relaxation and stress reduction. The Breeze
Signature Facial, featuring pumpkin and papaya enzymes, gently
exfoliates and hydrates the skin, leaving it radiant and refreshed.
Regular facials can help combat the effects of environmental
stressors, such as pollution and UV radiation, thus contributing
to long-term skin health and vitality.
Moreover, salon services like hair care and nail
treatments play a crucial role in enhancing both
physical and mental well-being. A fresh haircut
vigor. Similarly, manicures and pedicures not only enhance
the appearance of hands and feet but also provide a sense of pampering
and relaxation.
surgery and less downtime. The goal of providing advanced technology
and procedures is for better healing and decreased discomfort
for our patients.”
Dr. Pasqual’s staff is trained in IV sedation within their state-ofthe-art
office, which offers private rooms and a relaxing setting for
each patient. They have recently incorporated lasers in the practice
for surgical cases, which is less painful and provides for faster recovery
times. The office is also utilizing Platelet Rich Fibrin to accelerate
the healing of soft and hard tissue.
“Pasqual Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is different from many dental
or medical clinics; we are a very patient-centric office. We focus on the
patients’ physical as well as emotional wellbeing,” said Dr. Pasqual.
The center utilizes only the best diagnostic equipment including
i-CAT 3D imaging which produces precise high-definition 3D scans
of your entire mouth, face and skull so an accurate treatment plan
may be established. Dr. Pasqual’s office is one of the few centers
that utilize this advanced technology that greatly benefits each
patient because of its accuracy. They also offer a procedure called
NightLase, which is a laser treatment used to decrease the frequency
of snoring at night and improve patient’s airways to sleep better.
Other offerings include: Botox and facial fillers, dental implants,
wisdom teeth, oral rehabilitation, and utilizing laser for facial aesthetics
to decrease scaring, wrinkles, and sun spots with minimal
downtime and discomfort. Dr. Pasqual’s experience in the only surgical
specialty of dentistry gives him an edge over many.
In fact, oral and maxillofacial surgery requires years of hospitalbased
surgical and medical training after graduation from dental
school. John R. Pasqual, D.M.D., P.A. is a board-certified oral and
maxillofacial surgeon and fellow of the American Association of
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, as well as fellow of the American
College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a graduate and
graduating class President of the University of Pittsburgh School
of Dental Medicine. Dr. Pasqual received post-graduate training
in surgery as well as anesthesia at Case Western Reserve University,
MetroHealth Medical Center, a level I trauma center located in
Cleveland, Ohio where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Pasqual has many accolades and gives back in other areas of
his life, including being the past President of the Palm Beach County
Dental Association, as well as the Atlantic Coast District Dental Association.
He is the former Chairman of the Bethesda Hospital Foundation,
and current member of Bethesda Hospital East and West Board
of Directors. Dr. Pasqual is a former clinical associate professor at the
University of Florida as well as Temple University. He was inducted
into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international honor society
recognizing excellence in his specialty. In addition, he is a Trustee
to the Florida Dental Association, former Delegate to the ADA and
prior committee member on the FDA Council for Dental Education
and Licensure. Dr. Pasqual supports the Mission of Mercy through
the FDA to provide health care for underserved individuals in Palm
Beach County who can’t afford to have dental treatment.
His expertise hasn’t gone unnoticed… His patients come from
Boca Raton, Palm Beach, Jupiter, Miami and really from all over the
world. Dr. Pasqual has even treated many celebrities, world- renowned
musicians, athletes and other high-profile patients.
“I treat several patients that have celebrity-status. However, all my
patients are super-stars to me. It is a true privilege to practice each
and every day. I am humbled that patients that may obtain medical
care anywhere in the world choose my office,” said Dr. Pasqual.
Whether it’s a dental implant, complete oral rehabilitation, or facial
reconstruction, Dr. Pasqual finds an inner reward in helping his
patients look and feel their best.
“If I could give Dr. Pasqual and his staff 10 stars, I would! This
was my first time ever having any type of surgery done (wisdom
teeth) and my experience was A+. Everyone is very informative and
friendly. The office is extremely clean and well organized. It was the
most relaxing, painless procedure. I barely felt any pain afterwards.
I would recommend Dr. Pasqual to all my friends and family members
for any future work,” stated a client.
BLACK TIE CLUB
Dating in South Florida in
the Eyes of a Matchmaker
BY NICOL JENKINS | PHOTOS BY MELISSA KORMAN
What is it like to date in South Florida?
If you ask seasoned matchmaker Cheryl Maida,
matchmaking is the best avenue to find your person.
I started in the matchmaking business 14 years
ago, the apps existed but were not that popular. Fast
“When
forward to Covid, and the apps went crazy. With
so many people exploring the apps over the years, they have become
watered down. Some people are dishonest about their age or
putting photos up from 20 years ago. People are wasting a lot of
time and money on the apps. We alleviate the time spent scrolling
through hundreds of profiles and narrow it down. We have quality
over quantity,” said Cheryl Maida.
74 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
Cheryl’s matchmaking company, The Black Tie Club, has become
an exclusive dating service for busy professionals of all
ages. Cheryl started the matchmaking company in 2010, and it
expanded three years ago through a partnership with John Ferber,
a successful technology entrepreneur. They have joined forces
to combine the best aspects of traditional matchmaking with the
technological advances of online dating and address and eliminate
the pain points that everyone hates with traditional dating
apps and services. Their niche is successful professionals in their
20s and up to 83; some in their 30s and 40s who have never been
married, others in their 50s or 60s who are widowed or divorced.
The company specializes in South Florida, anywhere from Miami
to Port Saint Lucie, and recently, the West Coast of Florida and a
database of clients from New York.
Unlike other matchmaking services and dating apps, The Black
Tie Club has thousands of vetted clients in its database who receive
dating coaching. Their matches see photos of each other before the
date, but they do not receive each other’s phone numbers, so they
can get to know one another on the date. This has been successful
among clients, with many going on second dates and having longterm
relationships. Cheryl says the second date is when people really
get to know each other and are not as nervous.
“What makes us different is that everyone in our database can
financially take care of themselves, and they are localized. We personally
interview every client; no one will get catfished on our site.
We provide our clients with a professional photo shoot and pair
them up to work with a matchmaker,” added Cheryl.
The Black Tie Club offers more than just matchmaking. The
matchmakers take the time to listen to their clients and what they
are looking for in a partner. They do all the work; they set up the
date and make the introductions. They also offer coaching before
and after a date so clients can find out what they are doing right and
what they can do better. During the interview process, they learn
about the client’s background, personality, and lifestyle.
“Our job doesn’t stop after the first date. We form a very good
bond and relationship with our clients. We still offer advice to our
clients who have been together for a year. We have their best inter-
est at heart and truly form friendships with our clients,” she said.
With over 14 years of matchmaking experience, Cheryl gives her
clients sound advice on setting dating expectations. She recommends
going on a first date with an open mind and taking a few dates to get
to know someone. She also suggests having similar hobbies and narrowing
down the checklist of important qualities in a partner.
“If you are single in South Florida, the apps are not the answer
anymore. Matchmaking is a wonderful avenue with a good success
rate. We have dozens of people who have gotten married and are
living with each other,” said Cheryl.
Many clients have praised Cheryl and The Black Tie Club for
guiding them through the dating world.
“I have had a wonderful experience working with Cheryl and her
staff at The Black Tie Club. At first, I was nervous to be set up on
dates. After speaking to Cheryl on the phone, my mind was immediately
put at ease. I have met and dated many fascinating people
through The Black Tie Club. I would highly recommend The Black
Tie Club to men and women looking to get back into the dating
world!” stated a happy client.
“Thank God for The Black Tie Club. Cheryl and her staff are amazing
to work with and so kind and attentive. All the members are
pre-screened and vetted, unlike all the other dating apps out there.
The matchmaker I worked with really cared about me and my life
and helped me find someone to share my life with. Even though I
was working with a certain matchmaker, Cheryl, the owner, made
sure to check in with me and really cared about how I was doing.
I would give them more than five stars if I could!” stated another
satisfied client.
PYFROM & REISLER, PA
Important Updates and Changes in
Florida Law on Alimony and Timesharing
BY NICOL JENKINS | PHOTOS BY MELISSA KORMAN
There have been quite a few law changes here in Florida,
effective July 1, 2023. Specific to family law matters are Fla.
Stat. §61.08 (alimony) and Fla. Stat. §61.13 (timesharing).
Matrimonial and family law attorneys Cynthia Pyfrom and
Jennifer E. Reisler of Pyfrom & Reisler, PA. share their
knowledge of the Statutes. They stated, “While this is not
an all-inclusive explanation of all changes to these two specific Statutes,
it is important to note some of the major changes that became
effective on July 1, 2023.”
FLA. STAT. §61.08 (ALIMONY):
Prior to July 1, 2023, permanent alimony was an available type
of alimony under Fla. Stat. §61.08. However, Florida has now essentially
abolished permanent alimony going forward. Thus, when
parties get divorced in Florida, permanent alimony is no longer an
available type of alimony the Court can award a spouse. What remains
in the Statute is durational alimony, bridge-the-gap alimony,
and rehabilitative alimony. The Court can also award a combination
of various forms of alimony, including temporary alimony during
the pendency of the divorce case.
Importantly, the Statute now gives parties and family law practitioners
much more specific direction in determining an appropriate
amount of durational alimony. The requesting party is still required
to prove a “need” for the alimony. Once that “need” is proven, the
Court can then award an amount for a specific duration of time. The
maximum duration an award of alimony can last depends on the
length the actual marriage lasted. How does a Court determine the
length of the marriage? From date of marriage to date of filing the
Petition for Dissolution of Marriage. A marriage lasting between
zero to ten years in length could result in an award of durational
alimony up to a maximum of 50% of the length of the marriage. A
marriage lasting between ten to twenty years in length could result
in an award of durational alimony up to a maximum of 60% of the
length of the marriage. Lastly, a marriage lasting more than twenty
years in length could result in an award of duration alimony up to a
maximum of 75% of the length of the marriage.
Once the duration of the alimony is determined, the amount of alimony
awarded depends on the actual “need” the requesting party
has for that financial support, but most importantly, any amount of
durational alimony awarded is capped out at a maximum of 35% of
the difference between the net incomes of the parties.
This is a simplified explanation, as issues could arise that could
affect the ultimate determination, including the income of the parties
(whether one is underemployed or unemployed), as well as
actual need versus desire. There are a lot of specific factors a Judge
and/or family law practitioner needs to know to determine an accurate
and fair alimony amount.
FLA. STAT. §61.13 (TIMESHARING):
One of the biggest changes made to this specific Statute is the addition
of a presumption that equal timesharing is in the best interest
of the minor child(ren). Before these recent statutory changes,
there was no presumption about what timesharing schedule would
be best for children. Now, the presumption of equal timesharing is
where the analysis starts. If one parent believes equal timesharing
is not in the best interests of a child in common, that parent carries
the burden to prove to the Judge why. So, it is important to know
and review all the statutory factors the Court must take into consideration
when analyzing this issue to ultimately determine if the
equal timesharing presumption is in the best interest of a child in
any given case, or if the Judge should award majority timesharing
to one parent over the other.
This Statute outlines a list of factors that detail what, exactly,
the Court is required to analyze in making this determination. It
is essential to be prepared when presenting facts and evidence to
a Judge in hope of persuading the Judge to award a timesharing
schedule that is not equal among the parents. The presentation of a
case and evidence is key to getting what you want in court.
Many other changes have been made to these Statutes, as well as
many other Florida Statutes, so it is extremely important to consult
with a reputable and knowledgeable local family law attorney so
you are fully prepared for any fight you may have ahead of you.
JADI AUTO RECON
Make Sure Your Car Is Road
Ready From Top To Bottom
BY DIANE FEEN | PHOTOS BY MELISSA KORMAN
Jonathan Augusto was born to be in the car
business. His father raced cars and inspired
young Jonathan to change a tire in three minutes.
COPYRIGHTED
That was a long time ago. But Augusto has been a car guy ever
since then. Call it happenstance or family breeding, but the
young man who could change a tire at lightning speed now
owns a full collision auto shop who does body work on domestic
and exotic cars.
Called Jadi Auto Recon this full collision shop also does custom
painting, reconditioning, interior repairs, bumper refinishing,
headlight Restoration and more.
Their reputation supersedes conventional wisdom and is the
reason the shop has grown from from 800 square-feet to 8000.
That doesn’t surprise Gary Weston of Delray Beach. The car
collector has been taking his beloved cars to Jadi Auto Recon for
the past 10 years.
78 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
And, this man knows a lot about cars. He owned a car wash in
Delray Beach and was a car dealer in New York. He also brings his
Bentley (and his 11 other cars) to Augusto to fix dents, scratches or
paint touch ups.
“I send a lot of people to Jonathan and have never heard one single
complaint. He is always there and he can do anything. It is very
difficult to paint cars today. They have a base coat that makes it very
hard to match the color. Jonathan gets it perfect every time. He really
does great work. I bring him all my cars,” said Weston.
Steve of Delray Beach is equally impressed – not only with
Augusto’s work ethic and talent, but with this humanity and humility.
“I had a wonderful experience with Jadi Auto Body. Jonathan went
above and beyond to help my aunt and myself with her car repairs. It

was in a fender bender which required towing. He was very kind and
patient with her and her concerns. He not only had the car towed to
his shop, but he drove my aunt home.”
Steve was impressed with their follow up and constant updates
about the car. “Upon completion, Jonathan drove the car to her
residence. They were Fast! Accurate! And, the workmanship was
excellent and the service second to none.”
A few weeks later Steve had some concerns and Augusto told
him to bring the car back. “In two hours he called me back and
assured me he had checked and repaired it at no charge. I highly
recommend them.”
After 28 years in the business Augusto has gained a loyal following.
There is a good reason. He is a man on a mission.
“I have always loved cars. When I was young, I wanted the
challenge of fixing something. Now that I am a little older, I like to
help my customers get their cars looking good and working well.”
With cars so scare those are magic words. With the lack (and high
price) of new and used cars, people want to keep their cars longer
and preserve their beauty. That’s one reason Augusto sees so many
people bringing in their cars for reconditioning.
“I brought my BMW in for an estimate. Jonathan was professional
and honest. I scheduled my car to be fixed and he had it done on time.
It looks better than it did brand new!”
There is other news at Jadi Auto Recon.
Jonathon Grant Augusto (Jonathan Jr.), who worked with his father
in the car business, has enlisted in the Navy. “My son will be in a
submarine in the navy because he wants to serve his country.”
Jonathon Sr.’s wife Toni has also made cars her life’s work and
passion. She works at Napleton, a very large group of dealerships,
and is a director of Service, Parts and the Bodyshop. “We both share a
passion for cars and I am so proud of the excellent work that Jonathan
does. We go to races together and we enjoy our life, and our work.”
Augusto has done such a great job repairing and refreshing cars
that he works on domestic and exotic cars for large Auto Dealerships.
He also devised ways to keep cars looking good despite the South
Florida terrain. “We have a ceramic coating we put on cars to keep
them shiny. The beach salt air can erode the metal of your car, we
have an undercoating that keeps it rust free for quite a while.”
Jadi also paints fiberglass boats with the same perfectionism. “I
send my boats to Delray because of the quality of work and painting
at Jadi. They are old school in their craftsmanship. Jonathan knows
how to fix what other people have to replace.”
If your car needs detailing, collision work, painting, reconditioning
(or anything else) call and make an appointment. They also take all
insurance.
They look forward to meeting you and making your car sparkle.
PEACEFUL BODY SPA
The Boutique Spa of Wonders
BY DIANE FEEN | PHOTOS COURTESY OF PEACEFUL BODY SPA
Who doesn’t want to feel peace and serenity, health and happiness?
Not many. That is the reason that Stacy Norman created
Peaceful Body Spa, a boutique spa in downtown Delray.
Peaceful Body Spa is not a corporate venture, nor is it part of a
hotel where commerce and comfort comingle amidst the hyperactivity
of its guests.
Instead, this calm serene spa is dedicated to the health and wellness
of its clients from the inside out.
They do that by way of Anti-Aging and Oxygen Facials, Microneedling,
Acne solution Facials, Hot Stone, Deep Tissue and Vedic Thai
Massages, Body Scrub treatments, and other modalities that sooth
the body, mind and spirit.
Business has been so good that Peaceful Body Spa has spread their
metaphorical wings and added more treatment rooms, a Thai Massage
room, two more Couple’s Suites and a light airy waiting room.
And, after 18 years of owning spas, Norman has hit the sweet spot
of popularity and reverence from clients.
“Stacy is so incredible, and an absolute wonderful woman. Her efforts
and passion for wellness are exemplified in both the appearance
of the spa as well as the entire staff,” said Sam.
Ana Gomez describes Peaceful Body Spa as a place of tranquility
with skilled hands that creates an oasis of serenity.
80 | APRIL 2024 | WWW.ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
That is exactly what Stacy had it mind when she opened this spa.
“I love to make people feel good. I also like to see them uplifted with
positive energy.”
Stacy rarely says something without achieving it. Her mission has
always been to create customized, therapeutic, effective treatments in
a serene and relaxing space.
She has accomplished that goal with ease. “I care about my clients and
my business. People know they will get a good service here; we create
an atmosphere that is conducive to both physical and spiritual healing.”
That is why they recently enhanced their space to accommodate more
clients and services. “We’re so excited to provide more space for clients.
It’s easier to get an appointment now and we have new practitioners.
Clients are also embraced by a caring staff whose goal is to make
guests feel welcome and comfortable. The atmosphere is a nexus of
compassion by way of professionalism and exceptionalism. Guests
can feel it.
“If I could give this experience 10 stars I would! I came with chronic
shoulder pain and tightness in my back. Brian was phenomenal at
finding the trigger points causing my pain. I highly recommend a deep
tissue massage reiki combo with Brian. My body and spirit feel top
notch and my heart is grateful,” said Tiff.
Feeling good is a great place to aspire to. And, a Thai Massage is one
way to get there. Norman went to Thailand to study Vedic Thai Massage
and learned this modality from all angles.
COPYRIGHTED

“Thai Massage is a lazy man’s (or woman’s) yoga. You will feel you
took a yoga class, and you will get all the benefits of one without any
of the work.”
They also have two new couple’s suites. They’re not only for couples,
but are perfect for mother and daughter days, pre-wedding pampering
and anniversary gifts.
You can pick any massage or have different treatments in the same
room. “One person can get a facial and another a massage; you can
mix and match the services. It’s for anyone who wants to experience
relaxing together.”
They also have a $99 monthly special. For April they’re offering a
$99 lymphatic massage. It’s excellent for post-surgery, detox, or a
weight loss journey because it helps reduce stagnant fluids.
They also offer Nanofusion, that makes skin softer and smoother using
creams that penetrate into the skin. There are prenatal massages,
as well as magical Reiki classes, one-on-one private Reiki sessions and
guided meditation.
These healing modalities will transport you to a magical place of
wholeness, healing and relaxation. Guests feel more balanced, grounded,
peaceful and open to the natural joy and serenity of existence.
Stacy’s compassion for helping others is always front center. She hosts
events that benefit others in a meaningful way. Last month she held her
annual clothing swap. People dropped off clothing or accessories and
were able to take what they wanted from three color-filled rooms.
Clothing was also donated to aZul - Fashion, Art & Design (a nonprofit
providing creative design programs for adults with disabilities).
Students took clothing to re-design and sell at their annual Spring Pop-
Up shop on May 11th at “The Square” in West Palm Beach. The rest of
the clothing was donated to local charities. “I am obsessed with helping
the community. I just love giving back.”
Peaceful Body Spa’s goal is to help clients feel and look their best. That’s
why they offer customized services based on client’s needs, whether emotional,
energetic or physical. They also create at-home skincare routines
with products to help keep your skin beautiful and youthful.
Peaceful Body Spa is the safe port in the natural ebb and flow of life.
It’s a place of kindness and care, nurturing and healing. It’s everyone’s
happy place for rejuvenation of body, mind, and spirit.
MOROCO ORTHODONTICS
ADULT ORTHODONTICS
SHIFT HAPPENS!
BY JACQUELINE MOROCO DDS, MS | PHOTOS COURTESY OF MOROCO ORTHODONTICS
It’s a fact. Whether or not you had braces as a child, teeth shift with age.
There are multiple negative side effects of teeth shifting which include
poor/ compromised function, uneven and excessive wear of teeth,
difficulty with proper hygiene, increased staining or discoloration and
increased risk of periodontal disease (gum recession and bone loss).
Frankly, crowded, poorly aligned teeth detract from one’s appearance,
give the impression of poor personal hygiene AND
are a sure sign of age!
Orthodontic treatment is NOT just for children and teens. Adults
comprise half of our patients at Moroco Orthodontics!
Although there are multiple benefits of adult orthodontic treatment,
the desire to achieve a striking smile and attractive, more
youthful face motivates most adults to seek orthodontic care.
Age is absolutely no barrier to having orthodontic treatment! Patients
in their 30s, 40s, 50s and even well into their 80s are routinely
and successfully treated with orthodontics. In fact, adults are excellent
orthodontic patients given that they have personally elected to
pursue their orthodontic treatment. They maintain excellent hygiene
and follow up visits with their dentist, follow the orthodontists’ instructions
to the “T” and faithfully keep their appointments. Very often,
the adult patient will finish sooner than the estimated treatment
time…and sooner than their adolescent counterparts.
But let’s face it, adults don’t want to wear braces! At the very least,
they don’t want anyone to know that they are wearing braces. At
Moroco Orthodontics, we are the experts in adult orthodontic treatment.
We offer multiple, discreet orthodontic treatment options
including Invisalign, lingual braces (braces behind the teeth) and
clear/ceramic braces. Occasionally, we will even combine these options
to achieve the optimal treatment result in the most discreet and
efficient (fastest) manner.
For patients of all ages, orthodontic care is now a much more
pleasant experience. Today’s patients enjoy less treatment time
than in the past, fewer and easier appointments, and major
technical advances such as digital scanning of teeth that
replaces messy in-the-mouth impressions as well as remote
appointments with Dental Monitoring, which
provides our doctors with weekly photos and videos
As with all patients, retainers are recommended following orthodontics
to maintain the treatment result. Retainers are simple removable
or fixed devices that keep teeth in their new positions.
We often call retainers your “Insurance Policy” because they assist
in avoiding the time and cost associated with further orthodontic
treatment in the future. Retainers might also be appropriate for an
adult who has just started to notice shifting of the teeth but is not
yet in need of any orthodontic correction. We even have Retainer
Insurance Plans to cover our patients for several years following
completion of their orthodontic treatment!
Moroco Orthodontics is the essence of a high-tech, high-personalattention
professional practice. We employ very low-dose, high-quality
digital imaging. Our orthodontic appliances benefit from the latest
methods in computer-assisted design and manufacture (CAD-CAM).
Additionally, Moroco Orthodontics has a highly trained, certified staff
with a combined 150+ years of experience in the orthodontic field.
Nicole Grimes
REGULARS | CITY PEOPLE
Nicole Grimes is known around town as someone who
lights up a room like a 200-watt bulb. But her light is
often tilted toward helping others feel their greatness.
If you mention Grimes’ name to Max Zengage he will
send emojis with boundless smiles and offer his
opinion on the subject.
“Nicole is a guiding light bringing people (and crazy
wonderful ideas) together, making dreams a reality
and going above and beyond with charitable visions.
She gives back and creates beautiful experiences and
once-in-lifetime events,” said Zengage, creator of Delray
Beach Concours.
Grimes has also been described as a powerful force of
nature. But it is not happenstance that creates this centrifugal
feminine force. It is willpower and hard work.
“I am never a bare minimum person. I always give
more than what is expected and end up going forward
in my career, a show, an initiative and a promise,” said
Grimes, who grew up in Ft. Lauderdale.
Her background supports this ambitious theory.
Grimes first job was at McDonalds where she worked as
a cashier, drive through helper, and cook.
She also grew as a business leader at the tender age of
15. “I was able to take courses at the McDonalds’ school
on quality and professionalism. The courses instilled
and shaped how I do business today.”
That is saying a lot because Grimes has traversed a
path of leadership and ambition that has garnered her
success and fulfillment. She currently owns Grimes
Events & Party Tent. She started out with two employees,
an old truck, and a home office, but now has 45 employees,
a fleet of trucks and assorted warehouses.
It’s been quite a ride for this Florida gal, who came
from a family with four siblings and step-siblings. But she
sees it as a blessing, not something that hid her thunder.
“With eight people in the family everyone was always
talking over each other. There were eight conversations
going on at the same time. But I saw my mom’s strength
running the household and I knew that I wanted to be
independent and in charge.”
That is precisely what she did. Her first foray of independence
was at McDonalds, but she swiftly moved
on to Target. Grimes started as a cashier while in high
school and worked her way up to cashier manager.
Though she was firm in her conviction to be a leader,
Grimes turned to her General Manager at Target to find
her way in the world. “I did not know what to do with
my life so I asked my manager at Target what I should
The Graceful Covering
of a Great Supporter
do. I only knew I wanted to do something where I would
be in charge. She told me to become a teacher.”
So that’s what she did.
She started out as an elementary school teacher at
Plumosa School of the Arts and later became an administrator
for Palm Beach County Schools. “I would go to
struggling schools, diagnose their deficiencies based on
the test scores, and provide support.”
Grimes also climbed the educational ladder equipped
with the right tools. She got a BA in Elementary Education,
a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a
Master’s in Curriculum Writing.
After 10 years she swiftly changed gears. She joined
her husband Marc in the event and party tent business.
“He thought I was going to be his assistant, but he quickly
learned this was not going to happen. I just took the
reins and kept running.”
You bet she did. Like an Olympic athlete she entered the
tent and party event business 10 years ago at the speed of
lightning. Everyone around town is happy she did.
“Nicole inspires us all to be great leaders, treat your
teams well and give back to your community. Her grace,
passion, casual style, and professional approach to her
work is extremely refreshing and truly inspiring. The
world would be a better place with more people like Nicole
Grimes,” said Laura Simon, Exec. Director of Downtown
Development Authority.
Simon is correct. Those who know Grimes marvel at
her tenacity and compassion. When Covid hit, she paid
her employees for two weeks and told them to go home
and take care of their families.
She also called Palm Beach County Building Dept. and
offered to donate tents to cover the homeless. The largest
ones gave shelter to 1000 people. She also helped
restaurants during the pandemic by supporting an
“Outdoor Dining Initiative.”
This included planning and implementation of putting
umbrellas, tables and chairs outside so people could
eat outdoors. “I dropped the prices in half so restaurants
could conduct business outside. These were our neighbors
and could lose everything; we had to help.”
Her team also built outdoor classrooms at FAU. “We
designed and installed 15,000 square-feet of classrooms
so students could attend classes.”
Grimes continues to support (and sponsor) local non-
profits. She’s the Title Sponsor for FAU’s First Ladies Night with Head
Coach Tom Herman’s wife, Michelle Herman. The event – on April 3rd
– will teach women about football and introduce them to the players
and coaches. Funds raised will go to FAU’s athletic department and
student athletes.
Nicole and Marc are big athletic supporters of FAU sports teams.
They attend every FAU football and basketball game and traveled with
the basketball team for the March Madness basketball games (here
and out of town).
She also worked closely with the FAU Athletic Department to create
a 60,000 square-foot tarp for the President’s Gala. “We did this to dry
the football stadium for the event in case it rains.”
Michael Graffin, Deputy Athletic Director at FAU, is clearly grateful
for the support. “Nicole has been so impactful helping different units
on our beautiful campus. She brings positive energy to all our sporting
events and to our student-athletes. We are so grateful to have Nicole
join us (not only on campus) but around the country supporting
our men’s basketball final four run. She also traveled with our football
team on the road. She goes above and beyond serving our wonderful
community!”
Grimes is also on the Board of Trustees for the South Palm Beach
County YMCA. She helps raise money for their programs and camps,
which range from aftercare programs to swim and teen leadership
programs, senior programs, cancer programs and more.
She also supports Spirit of Giving, Habitat for Humanity, Achievement
Centers for Children & Families, the Delray Beach Chamber, the
DDA and other causes and organizations.
When not working – which is rare – Nicole loves to travel with her
husband Marc. “In the summer we go where it’s cooler; we like Washington
and Colorado. We take a large tent and enjoy grilling outside.”
To relax – after an often 80-hour work week – Grimes loves to take a
daily swim. But to this community cheerleader and mentor of women,
there is much to do.
“Nicole’s commitment to giving back underscores her belief in the
power of collective action and the importance of making a positive impact
where it’s needed most,” said her husband, Marc.
Jason Hagensick, CEO of YMCA of South Palm Beach County agrees.
“Nicole is an incredible community partner constantly looking for
new and exciting ways to strengthen and support our YMCA and the
communities we serve. She brings a level of dedication, commitment
and professionalism to everything she touches.”
You bet she does. Like a magician, Grimes sprinkles fairy dust on
the Delray terrain and it often comes to life a little brighter than the
day before.
MISC | ASK THE PETXPERT
BY BILL PIECHOCKI
What’s The Best Way For My Pet To
Achieve A Healthy Life And Longevity?
I
believe that the main thing we all want for our pets and ourselves
is a pain-free and low-stress life. We understand in today’s
overabundance of bad information and messaging that it
is hard to maintain a healthful lifestyle.
First, let’s focus on our carnivore family members, our dogs and
cats. Their digestive physiology is not designed to break down most
carbohydrates that most commercial diets present. I can give you a
successful recipe for dogs and cats in a heartbeat.
We must all understand what kind of animal they are. They are
carnivores, meat and animal feeders. That is plain and simple. They
did not evolve only within the past 75 years.
The principles that dictate a healthy body for pets and people
alike are primarily a species-appropriate diet, which I will only direct
to our carnivore pets. So, we must start with a carnivore diet,
which is animal-based food. Beware that when we feed them an
omnivore type diet that includes fruits, vegetables, grains, and other
starches in many commercial pet foods, we create dysregulation
of digestion. The body must get rid of these inappropriate components,
which lead to what doctor’s call “disease.”
Since these animals do not have the digestive ability to break
down plant-based ingredients, why would you offer a diet with all
the carbohydrates, artificial flavors, and additives compromising
their nutritional needs? Let’s look at what YOU can do.
Long story short, dogs and cats need fresh animal-based foods,
such as meat, poultry, fish, and various other foods, which we can
guide you through.
The next step is to rid the body of the toxins that they have accumulated.
Have you followed vaccine recommendations and parasite
prevention that their labels state they do NOT prevent? How
SEND YOUR QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR OUR PETXPERT TO: PETS@ATLANTICAVEMAGAZINE.COM
THESE PETS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
about those other drug protocols that you have not secured?
Did you know that adding herbs and botanicals into your pet’s
diet will assist their bodies to heal naturally? Did you know that the
herb Milk Thistle added to the diet can rebuild a liver in as little as
four months?
The same is true with Dandelion Root, which is known to dissolve
liver, kidney, urinary bladder, gall bladder, and other stones
naturally.
Do you have any idea how botanicals such as Spirulina, Chlorella,
Irish Moss, Moringa, Licorice Root, Bee Pollen, and Raw Honey can
enhance the life of a pet or you?
I really hope you learn and appreciate the content we have provided
here for over a decade. All I ask is that you share this valued
information along with our podcasts, where we supply even more
support.
In summary, the body is designed to heal itself. We can guide you
through this and are happy to help. Reading through our archives,
you will see how simple a plan can fall into place. Thank you for
your support!
GREYSON RHINA MABEL
This boy couldn’t be any more adorable. He’s
all puppy eyes and wiggles! As a Labrador mix,
he needs an active lifestyle and will bring all
the fun to the family. Greyson is vaccinated,
neutered, and about 5 months old. He’s ready
to go home with a lucky family!
I’m just a simple pupper. I don’t need much,
just some happy walks or a yard to play in, some
treats and snuggles, and most of all, you! Did you
know mutts are healthier than their purebred
friends? Yep. So we can have a nice long time
together because I’m only about 5 months old.
I’m a 3 year-old Shih Tzu looking for my person.
If you have a kind heart and a cozy lap, let’s
meet! My life thus far has not been stable but
I hear there are wonderful people who adopt
pups like me who need a home. I’m spayed and
vaccinated so let’s start a new life together.
Delray Beach. His favorite place is strolling
the Avenue and meeting all the friendly
people. A service animal, trained to save me,
but loves everyone he meets.
