who finds an actual tamperer,
Heniott explained.
Herriott told the Lions
that there is a toll-free security
hotline maintained 24
h6urs a day by Attantte
Eleettic, m giving some
examples of case histories,
he spoke of a person from
Vineland who over a period
of many yean stole at least
$23,000 of electricity horn
the company by tapping an
undergtound power Une,
then running the electricity
under ground into his
house, bypassing his regular
electric meter, which
consequently registered a
very modest amount of
electricity,
Herriott cited meter tarnparing
as perhaps the most
common means of stealing
electricity. Meters are now
being made so they are difficult
to tamper with, he
added.
Many respectable members
of the public >ave been
caught in this act, even law
enforcement personnel.
Herriott concluded by
stating mat it was his hope
mat pubUeiaing the fact that
tamperere are frequently
caught and prosecuted
criminally will deter this
•ort of action in the future.
Alan Bevan and Robert
Arrnent, co-chairmen of the
Blind Seals committee,
announced tihat Blind Seals
will be stuffed, addressed
and mailed by late October
to members of the public in
Ocean City. They hoped
that local residents would
be generous in their eonlribuHoni
to the dub.
Monies received from
Blind Seals are spent on
various sight activities,
including purchasing eyeglasses
