Achieving the Dream: <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>s Count<br />
<strong>Bunker</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> is one of four community colleges in Massachusetts and one of 84 in the nation chosen to take part in a<br />
multi-year initiative to help more students achieve their educational goals. The <strong>College</strong> received an initial $50,000 grant from the Lumina<br />
Foundation to plan and launch in FY08 Achieving the Dream: <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>s Count. In FY09, the <strong>College</strong> received an<br />
implementation grant of $400,000 over four years from the Boston Foundation, the Lloyd G. Balfour Foundation, the Educational<br />
Resources Institute, and the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation. Through Achieving the Dream, BHCC is expanding and<br />
institutionalizing a broad and robust structure of student engagement, building upon the work of the Title III-funded Engaged Campus<br />
Initiative. New learning communities are being developed for developmental and gateway course students, and supported by integrated<br />
student services. Professional development opportunities are providing faculty and staff with tools for collaborative teaching and/learning<br />
and integration support services. Success Coaches will provide intensive advising for at-risk students during their early college experience<br />
to strengthen their ability to stay on track toward their educational goals.<br />
Achieving the Dream promotes a culture of evidence that is fundamental to meaningful self-study, and is a key support as the <strong>College</strong><br />
undertakes a thorough and rigorous self-study process. Following is a baseline analysis of 928 matriculated first time in college (FTIC)<br />
students who enrolled at BHCC in the <strong>Fall</strong> of 2003.<br />
