A 205 pounder, Jeff gained valuable experience last season ind should be very formidable this viar Harry Vanderslice, one of the school's most versatile ithletes, and Hobie Young will battle for the other end spot or. more likely, share it Vanderslieo played some outstanding defensive end last sear Joining the Red and White this year in a" transfer frum Middle 'Township is Chuck Gargan Last year Gargan established a now Panther kicking record, getting five point* against Ocean City with his ta. nted toe If Slaveski can get something from his offense Gargan's toe could be a big help Otherwise, Chuck will play defensive safety. In pre-season competition Joe Foglio, Chuck Jordan, Bert Shaw, Mark Griffith and Jeff Foor have all been fairly impressive. All play on the defensive unit, however, which figures to again hold its own with most teams on the schedule. The main reason for this expected defensive strength is the return of the one real bright performer of last season, Mario Conti. Conti, as a junior, served as the defensive sparkplug of the Raiders. Despite his lack of great size, Mario could hit just as hard and just as often as any defender in the league. This year he is bigger and this additional size could be a major boost to the Raiders, In tru absence of Pennington during prt'seagon due to an injury Conti also served as an offensive halfback. Returning, with Slaveski, for their second year of coaching it Ocean City High are Roland Witfon, Bob Dotti and Doug Evans.
