Ranch Hope help for boys
described at Church fete
SOMERS POINT The Rev
Dnvid Bailey from Ranch Hope
in Alloway was program guest
at the covered dish dinner
meeting nf Bethany United
Methodist WSCS held last
week
Rev Bailey told the story of
Ranch Hope which is described
us Where Boys Come First
He opened by explaining
that he had a dream ei^it years
ago and now that dream is a
reality. He started this home
for pre delinquent boys with
two who needed help and now
has a total of 20 from all ports
of the state and ranging in agps
from 12 to 15
He went on to explain that a
staff of 30 dedicated adults
operate the ranch. Many
interested individuals,
organizations and groups
don tribute time, work and
funds along with the State of
New Jersey which jjno helps
with the project
"We at Ranch Hope want to
provide education, counselling,
work experienci 1 and spiritual
guidance that the troubled
boys need," the speaker said
He also said that a number
* of men and woriierr have
formed an Auxiliary to find
Ways to stimulate intercut in
Ranch Hope. An AtlMitie
County Auxiliary is now being
formed Anyone interested
may obtain further
information from Mrs. William
Thielking at 637 Shorp rd or
Why we had to ask for a
telephone rate increase
for the first time
since 1958.
Since the last time we ajked the New Jersey Botrd of
Public Utility Commissioners for a general increase In
phone rates, the cost of living has soared more than
35%, Our annual operating expenses have more than
doubled. And our construction expenditures have almost
tripled.
Actually, it took enormous doing to keep telephone
prices down through the past 12 years.
First, we tightened our belt the same way you might do
if you were caught in a bind.
And, second, we introduced dozens of innovations
aimed not only at euttinj costs, but at improving the
quality of your phone service as well,
For example, 100% dial service.
For example, expanded direct distance dialing.
For example, electronic switching.
Through innovations and efficiencies we were able to
absorb more than $190 million in Increased operating
expenses. And on top of that, to reduce intrastate toll
rates several times, saving customers some $23 million
annually.
We won't cut phone service and
that 1 ! the only place Iff! to cut
Costs are now rising faster than new technology can
offset them.
So, if we're going to continue to give you ever-improving
communication service, we must have more money.
To pay increased wages, To pay increased cost of capital.
To pay increased taxes.
It's not a case cf "want to," It's a case of "got to."
Average bill for basic retldtnca
phone strike would go up 8' (AcrMi fram Murpliy'i | 1 II)
