Chopter l5l held its foll lunch ond business meeting on
September 26,2009 ot the Tuxedo Pork Communiiy Holl,
Colgory. Although there were no Silent Keys within the
Chopter, o moment of silence wos held for Andy Berry,
VE6NDY who wos known to mony in the Colgory omoteur
rodio community.
Chopter President, Ken Oelke, VE6AFO reported thot
Chopter l5'l hod been involved in orronging for R.T.
Aldermon Middle School (Colgory) to hove on upcoming
sked with the lnternotionol Spoce Stotion on September
28. Ken olso reported thot onother sked wos being
orronged wiih Glenmore Christion Acodemy between
October l4 ond 1 6. Chopter l5l continues to be
involved with Morse code instruction ot the Colgory
Militory Museums. Recently, o group of militory codets
trovelled to the Colgory Militory Museums from Regino
ond porticipoted in the Morse code progromme. The
Colgory Militory Museums reported thot their motivotion
for presenting the progromme wos to teoch people "o new
longuoge". The Chopter welcomes new volunteers to ossist
with the Morse Code progromme.
Volerie Hepburn, VE6VMH, ond Howord Hepburn,
VE6GI received oppreciotion owords for their ossistonce
in orgonizing ond setting up for the Chopter meetings.
Eorle Smith, VE6NM, received o QCWA certificote to
recognise his 60 yeors os o hom rodio operotor, ond Tony
Howord, VE6AY received o QCWA certificote to recognise
his 50 yeors os o hom operotor.
Elections were held for the Chopter I 5l executive, ond
the results were: President - Ken Oelke, VE6AFO;
Secretory - Mitch Goodiohn, VE6SM; Treosurer - Vocont
(Gerry Linton, VE6PL ogreed to continue os octing
Treosurer until o replocement could be found.)

After the business port of the meeting, Joson Nishiyomo,
o science teocher ond member of the Royol Astronomicol
Society, gove on exciting tolk on "The Seorch for Extro-
Terrestriol lntelligence". He reviewed the theory behind
colculoting the probobility of finding intelligent life beyond
our solor system, ond gove on overview of ihe vorious
methods by which the seorches ore mode, including
piggy-bocking onto existing rodio telescopes used for
rodio ostronomy. Joson spoke of the SETI Leogue, ond
SETI@Home progromme, ond told the Chopter members
how they could become involved. ln view of the increosing
competiiion for reseorch time on rodio telescopes, Joson
believes thot omoteur rodio operotors hove the poteniiol to
become on importont component in the seqrch for intelligent
life in other poris of the goloxy.
