Chopter l5l held its foll lunch ond business meeting on<br />

September 26,2009 ot the Tuxedo Pork Communiiy Holl,<br />

Colgory. Although there were no Silent Keys within the<br />

Chopter, o moment of silence wos held for Andy Berry,<br />

VE6NDY who wos known to mony in the Colgory omoteur<br />

rodio community.<br />

Chopter President, Ken Oelke, VE6AFO reported thot<br />

Chopter l5'l hod been involved in orronging for R.T.<br />

Aldermon Middle School (Colgory) to hove on upcoming<br />

sked with the lnternotionol Spoce Stotion on September<br />

28. Ken olso reported thot onother sked wos being<br />

orronged wiih Glenmore Christion Acodemy between<br />

October l4 ond 1 6. Chopter l5l continues to be<br />

involved with Morse code instruction ot the Colgory<br />

Militory Museums. Recently, o group of militory codets<br />

trovelled to the Colgory Militory Museums from Regino<br />

ond porticipoted in the Morse code progromme. The<br />

Colgory Militory Museums reported thot their motivotion<br />

for presenting the progromme wos to teoch people "o new<br />

longuoge". The Chopter welcomes new volunteers to ossist<br />

with the Morse Code progromme.<br />

Volerie Hepburn, VE6VMH, ond Howord Hepburn,<br />

VE6GI received oppreciotion owords for their ossistonce<br />

in orgonizing ond setting up for the Chopter meetings.<br />

Howord, VE6AY received o QCWA certificote to recognise<br />

his 50 yeors os o hom operotor.<br />

Elections were held for the Chopter I 5l executive, ond<br />

the results were: President - Ken Oelke, VE6AFO;<br />

Secretory - Mitch Goodiohn, VE6SM; Treosurer - Vocont<br />

(Gerry Linton, VE6PL ogreed to continue os octing<br />

Treosurer until o replocement could be found.)<br />

After the business port of the meeting, Joson Nishiyomo,<br />

o science teocher ond member of the Royol Astronomicol<br />

Society, gove on exciting tolk on "The Seorch for Extro-<br />

Terrestriol lntelligence". He reviewed the theory behind<br />

colculoting the probobility of finding intelligent life beyond<br />

our solor system, ond gove on overview of ihe vorious<br />

methods by which the seorches ore mode, including<br />

piggy-bocking onto existing rodio telescopes used for<br />

rodio ostronomy. Joson spoke of the SETI Leogue, ond<br />

SETI@Home progromme, ond told the Chopter members<br />

how they could become involved. ln view of the increosing<br />

competiiion for reseorch time on rodio telescopes, Joson<br />

believes thot omoteur rodio operotors hove the poteniiol to<br />

become on importont component in the seqrch for intelligent<br />

life in other poris of the goloxy.<br />
