Firm Overview:
Today, businesses face greater scrutiny and more “bet the company” issues than
ever before. With a practice that offers unparalleled representation across a comprehensive
range of practice areas, we have the ability to anticipate obstacles, seize opportunities
and get the case resolved or the deal done—and the experience and know-how
to prevent it from being undone.
We are more than 1,000 lawyers strong, with offices in 13 cities in the United
States, Europe and Asia. Our practice includes 350 litigators with unmatched trial,
appellate, Supreme Court and arbitration experience; preeminent regulatory practices
in antitrust, communications, FDA, financial services, securities, trade and other areas
including over 100 lawyers who have held high-level government positions; an
acclaimed intellectual property practice enriched by the expertise of nearly 100 attorneys
and patent agents who hold scientific or technical degrees; more than 250 seasoned corporate
transactional lawyers and business counselors; extensive international capabilities
and cross-border experience; and hundreds of other lawyers who handle bankruptcy,
environmental, labor and employment, private client, real estate and tax matters.
WilmerHale was formed in May 2004 through the merger of Hale and Dorr LLP
and Wilmer Cutler Pickering LLP. The two firms brought more than 125 years of distinguished
history as well as complementary strengths to our new firm, which has an
even broader spectrum of top-ranked practices. To each practice, we bring outstanding
reputations for quality, excellence and service to clients.
Pro Bono: For decades, we have been known for our record of pro bono representation
and community service—a record based on the belief that there is more to our
professional mandate than advocacy for the most powerful and successful members of
society. Our commitment to providing a voice for the least powerful is demonstrated by
pro bono contributions that range from cases of national importance before the US
Supreme Court to litigation on behalf of individuals who lack the means to secure
necessities as fundamental as housing, adequate medical care and a safe home environment.
Through these efforts, and through community service initiatives that have
grown into thriving partnerships, we work to enhance the quality of life for many in
our local neighborhoods and around the globe.
Diversity Efforts: We are committed to building an environment in which all
lawyers and staff members can develop their talents fully. It is our mission to strive
actively to promote diversity, including greater representation of people of color as well
as gay, lesbian, and bisexual lawyers and staff members throughout the firm. To
achieve its goals, the firm has established a Diversity Committee, chaired by four partners.
WilmerHale is committed to:
Encouraging a better understanding of how diverse individual experiences and
backgrounds can add to the strength and productivity of the firm through a continuing
firm-wide communication and educational process;
Continuing to ensure that no person’s growth, achievement, or advancement is
hindered because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, national
origin, or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law;
