The new processing system from Kathrein

„Our successes thus far are great prerequisites for the upcoming
tasks, which we must use, not only to maintain our position in the
markets but to also significantly strengthen it,“ emphasised Prof.
Anton Kathrein in the framework of an international representative
conference of the Kathrein group of companies in Rosenheim.
Representatives from over 50 companies, 33 countries and all
continents arrived at the parent company.
The goal is to obtain 50 percent of the world market share in
the area of mobile communication antennas
„Leading market research institutes currently give us a world market
share of 40% in the field of mobile communication base station
antennas, and we believe, we must succeed to increase this share to
50%,“ predicted the company owner. The main prerequisites have
been made by appropriate investments, suitable global strategies and
worldwide production capacities, which are quickly produced.
Despite the heavy price pressure in the international competition,
Kathrein is also successful with dropping prices, because the high
quality standard of Kathrein products, the technical “know-how” of
our employees and the personal contact with the customers are very
important for being awarded a contract. This also applies to the area

of professional transmitting and receiving antennas as well as to the
complete mobile communication market.
The Kathrein group has planned for the current calendar year
a turnover of 820 million Euro with around 3,900 employees.
Prof. Dr. Kathrein stated with applause from the conference
members, „And that we will do together!“
Kathrein products at the Soccer World Cup 2002
The Soccer World Cup in Korea and Japan is not only a highlight in
the world of sports. High standards have also been placed and made
on the telecommunication sector. Modern UMTS antennas from
Kathrein are exclusively providing perfect cellular phone connections
in all ten Korean World Cup stadiums. The new system was presented
and started by the Korean president in the framework of the opening
ceremony in the stadium from Seoul.
The order was successfully concluded on-site via the Kathrein subsidiary
company, Kathrein Asia in Seoul. In the preliminary stages of
the installation of the first UMTS system in Korea and simultaneously
also in South East Asia, the Korean mobile communication operator
KTI set an example for the successful development of this new mobile
communication standard.
The latest generation of Kathrein UMTS antennas underwent practical
tests under very specific requirements in field tests and laboratory measurements in Korea with the help from engineers from the
Kathrein parent company in Rosenheim and was the only antenna
which was successfully tested and selected. Local Korean as well
as international competitors could not live up to the development
standard of the antennas from Rosenheim.
Meanwhile, 180 of these UMTS antennas worth more than 150,000
Euro are built. Already 1,500 owners of cellular phone use the
special UMTS services, which
includes the sending of animated
pictures via the cellular.
After the successful start of this
first part of the first UMTS
system, the installation of the
entire Korean capital city,
Seoul, is planned after the
Soccer World Cup.
