Avoiding waste by using
recyclable aluminium cores
The aluminium we use is sent to us in large
coils 10,000 metres in length, that are wrapped
around either a cardboard or aluminium
‘core’. We purchase approximately 23,000
of these in Europe every year to manufacture
our beverage cans. This means there is
potentialy 23,000 cardboard coil cores sent
to landfill waste sites each year in Europe
alone.
Avoiding waste
When the coil supplied has an aluminium
core, they can be crushed flat and sent back
responsibility
to our aluminium suppliers and recycled,
creating no waste. Two of our four European
suppliers have therefore been converted to
using aluminium cores, with the intention
of converting the remaining two by the
beginning of 2007.
This change reduces the amount of waste
going to landfill and greatly reducing the
amount of transport needed to return the coil
cores to suppliers, due to our ability to crush
and compact the metal cores on site ready
for transit.
