Dealing with soiled diapers is the main thing that scares people away from cloth diapers – yet, you cannot escape
dealing with poop no matter what type of diaper you use! Even with disposables, you still have to clean your baby up
when changing him or her, and that’s the messiest part. With cloth you must simply get the soil from the diaper
into the toilet, where it belongs. When you think about it, throwing untreated human waste (“raw sewage”) wrapped
in paper and plastic into the garbage can and then the landfill is probably not the most desirable way to dispose of
it! Here are several popular options for making cloth clean-ups much easier. You may want to use one or all of
them--or none, if you’re not squeamish. (Some people use low tech items like rubber gloves.)
Diaper Duck
This innovative, inexpensive tool allows you to rinse and wring prefold
style diapers without getting your hands wet. We loved it! Many people
ask us how it works: Using an overhand grip, squeeze the Diaper Duck to
open, then let go to clamp onto the diaper, near
the clean end (as in the photo) . Swoosh the
diaper in the toilet while holding onto the Diaper
Duck, then using the same overhand grip with
one hand, use the other hand to pull the diaper
back through to wring . Comes with suction cup
for convenient storage on the side of the tank .
Made of durable Lexan plastic, the manufacturer
offers a 1-year warranty. May not be effective with
low flush toilets. (U.S.A.)
Making Clean Ups Easier
Mini Shower ® Diaper Sprayer
The Mini-Shower ® is a much loved product for one good reason – it makes removing soil from diapers and diaper covers easy! This model has received
consistently high marks from customers and has many great features: adjustable spray pressure, on-off button on the handle; shut-off valve at the base;
a super flexible clear hose; and neat storage on the side of the tank. Many people keep their diaper pail next to the toilet, where it’s an easy matter to
toss the diaper after rinsing. Some people who don’t presoak diapers use it to rinse wet diapers, also, to reduce odor in the pail. The Mini-Shower will
work with all types of diapers, from Fuzzi Bunz to fitteds, all-in-ones to prefolds, and
all types of diaper covers. It attaches easily to the flexible water supply hose that goes
from the wall to your tank (if you have an older metal supply hose, you will have to
buy a flexible hose at a hardware store, usually under $10.00). Highly recommended.
Flushable Diaper Liners
Designed to make diaper clean-ups easier, these flushable diaper liners
are an alternative method for dealing with any type of diaper. While some
people use them at each change, others use them for convenience on
trips away from home. A liner is laid in the center of the diaper, then
removed and flushed or discarded when the diaper is changed . (The
manufacturer does not recommend
them for septic tanks .) They come
100 sheets to a roll, with each sheet
measuring 4 1/2” x 13 1/2” inch .
