suggesting that I should move away but I didn't understand<br />

the message and stood there watching. The outlaws started<br />

firing bullets incessantly. However, at last, the attackers failed<br />

due to the bravery of my father. If my father had not used the<br />

trick and his strength, the attack might have caused much<br />

damage to the village.”<br />

“The targeted home of attack had also got a revolver and<br />

a gun but they couldn't do anything. But with the presence of<br />

mind, my father could counter their attack.”<br />

Chhotubhai still remembers that on the next day at<br />

school, his teacher Vitthalbhai praised him saying, “A brave<br />

son of a brave father !”<br />

The brave son of this brave father also remembers many<br />

other incidents of courage that his father had shown.<br />

Unlocking the memories, he says, “There used to be many<br />

snakes in our village. My father used to shoot them. People<br />

used to call him if snakes were found around. But when he<br />

fired his 12-bore gun, the sharp tiny bits of bullets would be<br />

fired. Once it so happened that the holy statute of Lalji<br />

Maharaj got shattered due to the bullets. From then on,<br />

my father stopped killing snakes with his gun.”<br />

As the saying goes 'Like the father, like the son'<br />

<strong>Dr</strong>. C L <strong>Patel</strong> used to shoot snakes when his father was not<br />

around. Looking into the past, he says, “Once there was a<br />

snake in the roof. I fired a shot and the snake was cut into two.<br />
