Chhotubhai accomplished another project and GCET was<br />
established.<br />
Chhotubhai founded the college and also provided it with<br />
all the necessary requirements. He also developed hostels for<br />
the College. He was falling short of finance, still he had<br />
constructed 80 Quarters. Thus, he marched forward in making<br />
the dreams of Bhaikaka<br />
come true. And then he<br />
thought of SEMCOM.<br />
Shanubhai <strong>Patel</strong> was due<br />
for retirement at that<br />
time. Talking about this,<br />
SEMCOM<br />
Chhotubhai says : “It was R C Desai who created the<br />
circumstances for Shanubhai's premature retirement. At that<br />
time, I was thinking of the 3 possible names to be<br />
recommended for the panel of Vice Chancellor of Sardar <strong>Patel</strong><br />
University. So I proposed V S <strong>Patel</strong>, Shanubhai and somebody<br />
else. Prof. V J Trivedi, the principal of Gujarat College, was the<br />
Member of the Search Committee. R C Desai asked him to<br />
drop Shanubhai's name and to write his own name in his<br />
place. When I returned from America, I came to know about<br />
this. Hearing this, I went to V J Trivedi saheb's home and at<br />
that time he gave me the entire report of what had happened.<br />
But meanwhile Shanubhai gave up the job as he felt<br />
humiliated. But we were on real good terms so I asked him to<br />
look after SEMCOM and thus SEMCOM was founded.”<br />
