Dillard’s 

to open 

new store 

in Rayzor 

Ranch 

RED Development, 

a premier developer, owner 

and operator of retail 

properties, has announced 

it will bring an all-new 

Dillard’s department store 

to Rayzor Ranch Town 

Center, the new, open-air 

retail and entertainment 

destination now under development 

in Denton. 

Dillard’s, being 

planned as a 126,000 

square foot store, is the 

first anchor department 

store named for the new 

project since RED became 

an owner and assumed 

the management of the 

property in 2010. Progress 

at the adjacent retail property, 

the 800,000 square 

foot Rayzor Ranch Marketplace, 

has been significant 

in 2012: This year 

RED announced Kohl’s, 

Famous Footwear, Jo- 

Ann Fabric and Craft 

Store, and Petco, all slated 

to open in 2013. These retailers 

will join the property’s 

already open and 

successful Sam’s Club 

and Walmart Supercenter, 

among other retailers and 

restaurants. 

The new Dillards 

is the first of several 

high-quality anchors in 

the pipeline for the new 

Rayzor Ranch Town Center, 

which is planning a 

balanced and diverse retail, 

dining and entertainment 

lineup.

intersection of I-35 and 

U.S. 380 in the heart of

these plans were shelved 

in 2008 as retailers and 

developers retrenched 

amidst global economic 

challenges. RED has injected 

new energy into 

the Rayzor Ranch retail 

developments, and the 

Dillard’s announcement 

is the first of many more 

expected retail names for 

the Town Center project.

Shirley Ann Bistrup 

A child of God, Shirley Ann Bistrup, left the world 

peacefully Thursday, December 6th, 2012 in Denton, Texas 

to go home for Christmas. Joining nine brothers and sisters, 

Shirley was born on February 9, 1935 to Salmer and Eda 

Anna (Schmidt) Hanson in Walnut Grove, MN. She graduated 

from Ivanhoe High School in 1953. On May 28, 1955 

she married the love of her life, Private Kenneth H. Bistrup, 

at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arco, MN, making their 

first home in Lawton, OK. The vast majority of Shirley’s 

wonderful life was in Mankato, MN, with several fun years 

at Reeds Lake in the Waterville-Elysian area. She was an active 

member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in North Manka-

Haydn Kenley and Caden of Denton. 

Also surviving are her siblings, brother, Lavern Hanson, 

Arco, MN and sister, Dorothy Kay, Danville, CA, and 

brothers-in-law, Duane and wife Ardyce, Denver, CO, Dick 

and wife Colleen, Willmar, MN and Doug Bistrup, St. Paul, 

MN. Shirley will also be missed by her countless nieces and 

nephews and Godchildren, Gary Hanson, Janet Guennigsman, 

and Steve Bistrup. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, 

Ken, her parents, brothers (Earl, Fred, Harold, Martin, and 

Lester), sisters (Gertie and Edna), mother and father-in-law, 

Harold and Luella Bistrup, and several of Ken’s siblings. 

A special note of heartfelt gratitude goes to all of her 

caregivers in Sanger, TX, Dr. Scott Simms, and Accolades

each morning I navigate 

around the parked cars

and watch children running 

and getting their energy out 

at the bus stops as I slowly 

make my way through our 

busy Sanger neighborhood. 

My car points itself towards 

the gas station at the end 

of the street where we stop 

every morning for a healthy 

soda before heading to the 

office. Today is the same as 

every other day. Until… 

Lily and Adeline strut 

nonchalantly across the 

road in front of me nearly 

three blocks from home! 

I slam on my breaks and 

pull the car over. My sweet 

black and white Dominique 

chicken (Lily) and my 

daughter’s yellow and white

(Adeline) had never gotten 

out of our backyard before. 

How did they get out? How 

long had they been out? I 

jump out, scoop them up, 

and start the drive back 

home, with a chicken under 

each arm. I question them 

repeatedly on the way while 

scolding them thoroughly. 

They are silent. 

I pull into our driveway 

and stomp around to our 

backyard gate, mumbling 

about how late I’m going 

to be to work. I throw open 

the gate and who is standing 

there in our backyard with 

huge, innocent eyes? Lily 

and Adeline! I look down 

at the strange chickens in 

my arms and ask them what 

their names are. 

I realize I am not the 

only person with chickens 

in our town. More and more 

people are discovering the 

benefits of backyard chicken 

keeping and are choosing 

to claim a small patch of 

homestead for themselves 

in the suburbs. According

What the Cluck is Happening? 

Chickens Invade Our Suburbs 

near the epicenter of the city 

of over a million residents, 

such as Little Forest Hills 

near the Dallas Arboretum 

and I-30, and Lower Greenville 

just off of highway 75, 

have a growing backyard 

chicken population. 

The invasion of backyard 

chickens from rural 

farms to urban neighborhoods 

has spread to Sanger. 

Currently in Sanger there 

isn’t an ordinance preventing 

the keeping of poultry 

of any kind within the city 

limits. However, a discussion 

with neighbors might 

not be a bad idea before 

bringing home a few puffy 

chicks. Roosters aren’t the 

only ones that can cause a 

racket, I’ve discovered. Our 

girls proudly sing, cluck, 

and bagock pretty loudly 

before and after giving birth 

to their daily eggs. But, 

the ladies are no match for 

the cocka doodle doo of a 

rooster’s morning revelry, 

evening song, and midday 

sonata. 

Why chickens, you may 

ask? Backyard chickens provide 

organic, lower cholesterol 

eggs and meat for you 

and your family. Children 

and adults alike can learn 

the care involved in raising 

one’s own food and the incredible 

sacrifice required 

for chicken meat. Our feathered 

friends will stalk and 

devour pesky snakes, spiders, 

bugs, and mice. There 

is never a dull moment with 

pet chickens. Chicken entertainment 

value is priceless 

and will keep their owners 

captivated with their antics. 

Their poop is wonderful for 

composting gardens. Let 

them loose in your dead 

winter garden and they will 

aerate the earth with their 

little dancing feet and add 

fertilizer as they go.

Trinity Grissom, an 8th grader at Sanger Middle School, recently traveled to Orlando, 

Florida to participate in NCA’s (national cheer association) Christmas Extravaganza at 

Walt Disney World. She was one of 550 cheerleaders from all around who were nominated 

by NCA staff this summer that chose to be a part of this event. This has been a 

dream of Trinity’s for years. Cheerleading and Disney are both an important part of her 

life. Although, Sanger she News loves to cheer for Sanger, Texas Elite All-Stars in Pilot Point, and va- 


cation every year at Disney, this was a trip that her and her family will never forget. Disney’s 

parade is filmed each year in advance and then televised on Christmas day morning 

on ABC. She hopes that many of you will tune in to watch for her Christmas morning!

The Sanger Police Department responded to the following 

calls for service during the period of December 3-8, 2012. 

Monday, December 3 

- 5th St - sex offender check. Officer spoke with subject’s sister, 

who showed subject’s clothing and room. Officer advised 

sister to inform subject he needed to report to officer. 

- 9500 blk Culp Branch - subjects shooting guns in area. Subjects 

shot over deputies on scene. Subjects did not know deputies 

were in the area. Subjects fled the scene. Officer located 

the vehicle and stopped it on FM 455. Held subjects until deputies 

arrived. 

- FM 455W - located unconscious male in home. Officer 

continued chest compressions until medics arrived. Assisted 

medics until they transported subject to hospital. 

- Station - complainant attempting to make appointment 

with station as sex offender. Officer advised complainant he 

needed to come in. 

- Station - complainant had questions about vehicle he gave 

to someone to repair. Officer advised complainant to file a 

report with Denton court. 

- 1900 blk S Stemmons - complainant advised vehicle was 

damaged/keyed. Officer checked camera. 

- 500 blk 5th - report of a truck that hit a black/tan dog wearing 

a blue collar but no tags. Other vehicles were hitting the 

dog with their vehicle. Officer moved deceased dog off the 

roadway and spoke with complainant, who stated the truck 

could not avoid hitting the dog. Complainant didn’t want it 

to keep being run over. Dog was just a little bit bigger than a 

dachshund. 

- 800 blk S Keaton - ACO picked up stray large white dog. 

- Station - fingerprints. 

- Station - complainant suspects some information is bogus. 

Officer advised complainant to check open records. 

- Stemmons - complainant said mother dropped off her children 

at location. Mother came back before officer arrived. All 

okay. 

- Bolivar St - report of juvenile urinating in public. Officer 

checked area. 

- 200 blk Aster - complainant reported that signs had been 

spray-painted. 

- Stemmons - complainant was worried because her husband 

had not made it home from the gym. Officer spoke with the 

husband, who advised he would call his wife. 

Tuesday, December 4 

- 1800 blk N Stemmons - alarm/business. Officer checked 

building. 

- 500 blk Bolivar - complainant advised that juveniles in the 

parking lot will not leave. Possible disturbance. Officer arrived 

and male subject was sitting by the street. All okay. 

- 900 blk 5th - report of vehicle matching description of vehicle 

seen in area when business was broken into. Officer followed 

the vehicle and checked plates. 

- I-35 @ 477 - two-vehicle accident. 

- 11500 blk Marion - alarm. Officer checked building. 

- Ringneck Dr - disturbance. Subjects had been drinking and 

were arguing over living arrangements. 

- 1600 blk Fairfield - female was at residence without key. 

Neighbor thought she was breaking in. Female had permission 

to be there.

- 400 blk Chapman - complainant’s vehicle was hit on Cowling 

Road and actor kept going. Minimal damage to complainant’s 

vehicle. 

- Station - fraud report. 

- 1900 blk Stemmons - report of stray cat. 

- Station - met/spoke with sex offender about his residence. 

- 1100 blk Austin - report of loud argument. Three women 

were outside talking about deadbeat dads. No disturbance. Officer 

advised subjects to keep it down. 

- Station - report that sister-in-law sent a text to her husband 

that stated if she goes to the police, she’s ‘dead’ 

- Station - complainant had questions about case involving her 

son. 

- I-35 - major accident. Two victims taken to hospital via Care- 

Flite. 

Wednesday, December 5 

- 100 blk Carolyn - complainant stated unknown actor took 

his vehicle without permission. Vehicle was later located at a 

location in the county. 

- Porter Pl - complainant stated he and his girlfriend had an 

argument and she got upset and threw his laptop, breaking the 

screen. 

- Porter Pl - complainant stated she was attempting to pack her 

belongings and her ex-boyfriend started yelling at her. Verbal 

disturbance only. 

- 1600 blk Melton - complainant stated an unknown vehicle 

was parked in the driveway. The vehicle was reported UUMV 

(unauthorized use of a motor vehicle) earlier. Vehicle returned 

to owner. 

- Treys Ct - complainant had questions about her daughter being 

arrested. Officer was present during medical evaluation at 

the location. 

- 1800 blk Sand Stone - report of a nicely-dressed male subject 

asking complainant if she was leaving. Subject was seen in a 

SUV. Officer checked area. 

- Cowling @ Quail Crossing - report of tractor trailer backing 

down the road. Officer provided traffic control. 

- Elm St - report of 14-year-old who had not returned home after 

church. Officer checked several locations. Subject returned 

home. 

- 3000 blk Memory Ln - officer checked area and located a 

subject who advised he had checked and everything was okay 

and secure. Officer stayed with subject until deputies arrived on 

scene. 

- I-35 @ 477 - motorist assist. Officer helped subject push vehicle 

from center median to side of the road. 

- 11500 blk Marion - road hazard. Officer moved boxes out of 

roadway. 

- Wood @ Oak - noise complaint; loud music. Officer located 

subjects working on truck stereo. 

- Station - complainant had questions about possible report 

filed against him. 

- 100 blk Eider - ACO spoke with complainant who stated 

dogs tore holes in fence and act aggressively. No one home at 

owner’s residence. 

- 3rd St - ACO spoke with complainant regarding dogs bleeding. 

ACO advised to take to vet. Did not appear to be rabies. 

- Peach St - complainant suspects her daughter in the theft of 

complainant’s keys. 

- City - school counselor was advised by student that father 

struck mother after mother disciplined another child. Officer 

spoke with mother and father separately. Both advised nothing 

happened. Mother had scratches on her right cheek. 

- Station - met/spoke with complainant about child’s activity. 

Thursday, December 6 

- I-35 @ 477 - vehicle was pulled over due to sick passenger. 

No assistance needed. 

- 120 blk Tammy - residence fully engulfed in flames. Officer 

evacuated two adult subjects, one juvenile and four dogs from

next door neighbor’s home. 

- 100 blk Berry - minor in possession/consumption of alcohol. 

- 800 blk Stemmons - complainant advised someone had 

spray-painted the walls of her storage unit.

at neighbor’s.

identified himself. Male subject arrested and taken to jail for 

warrants out of Tarrant County. Juvenile nephew released to 

family’s youth pastor. Vehicle towed.

approximately 18-year-old male.

Run For Your Life was a big success at Clear Creek Intermediate 

School, recently. Run ForYour Life is a walk/run 

Kindergarten CTE Kindergarten Perfect Attendance 1st CTE 1st Grade for 2nd Perfect Six Weeks Attendance 2nd CTE 2nd Grade 

for 2nd Perfect Six Weeks Attendance for 2nd Six Weeks 

program that helps promote physical fitness in the kid’s 

daily lives. Each student was given 8 days to complete 

as many laps as possible around the bus lane. The top 3 

boy and girl runners from each grade level were recognized 

with a small prize. Each grade level had a goal 

number of miles to receive a sports bracelet. 3rd grade 

was 15 miles, 4th, 18 miles, and 5th, 20 miles. Several 

students from each grade achieved this goal and were 

recognized during lunches. 5 Laps = 1 mile

First Baptist Church 

Five presentations of The Sanger Christmas Celebration performed 

Last weekend, First Baptist Church, Sanger, was host to five presentations of The Sanger Christmas 

Celebration, before an estimated audience of almost 2,000 people. This is the tenth anniversary 

of the musical drama, having first been presented in 2003. The Christmas Celebration has always 

been a “gift to the community of Sanger” from the church, and is written and produced by the Minister 

of Music, Shane Studdard. All of the singers, actors, dancers, and technicians are members of the 

church, and volunteer hundreds of man hours to mount the production every year. Almost 100 people 

were involved in the production this year. The presentation is always titled “The Sanger Christmas 

Celebration,” but every year there is a subtitle which expresses a unique theme which changes from 

year to year. Being the tenth anniversary presentation, this year’s musical, “TRADITION!” showed

A highlight every year is a mini-concert by the Celebration Ringers handbell choir, comprised of 

thirteen church members who dedicate much time to the art of handbell ringing. This group presents 

music in the regular worship services of First Baptist Church, and has also been on two European Music 

Mission Trips to France and Italy. 

Each presentation was introduced by the Pastor of First Baptist Church, Dr. Greg Johnson.

Cheer Explosion 

Cheer Explosion’s Youth Show Team made up of girls 6 years old to age 12 performed at the 

Dallas Cowboy Stadium, recently. They just performed at spirit celebration’s Christmas Classic 

in Garland on Sunday, Dec 16th. They did an excellent job and Cx fans won “Best Fans in the 

Stands” for the 4th time already this year. On Dec 15th, Cheer Explosion Coaches won the 

Espirit Die Vi award for knowing how to keep cheerleading fun! All the competitive teams from 

CX competed over the weekend and all of them ranked in the top five in their specific divisions

small fundraiser for Fort Worth’s West Side chapter 

of the Lions Club; today several players who have 

participated in the tournament have gone on to 

professional careers in the NBA and NFL. College 

scouts and coaches from across the nation will be 

present at the tournament. 

Tickets are available at the tournament’s three 

venues. Tickets are $7 for Dec. 27, and $8 daily for 

Dec. 28-29. Fans can also purchase a ticket for all
