What you as a guest should know! 

How do I get the WÖRTHERSEE-CARD? 

If you have booked your holidays in one of the 130 member 

hotels and guest houses, you will get your card 

immediately on your arrival together with your room key. 

Without asking for it and without paying for it! 

You can buy the card in all the tourist offices in the region 

of Lake Wörthersee. 

Price for 1 week: 

• for adults – Euro 39.00 (from April to June 30th , and from 

September 1st ) 

• for adults – Euro 44.00 (from July 1st to August 31st ) 

• for children – (born between 1995 and 2003) Euro 19.00 

(from April to October) 

Price for 2 weeks: 

• for adults – Euro 47.00 (from April to June 30th , and from 

September 1st ) 

• for adults – Euro 52.00 (from July 1st to August 31st ) 

• for children – (born between 1995 and 2003) Euro 23.00 

(from April to October) 

What can I do with the WÖRTHERSEE-CARD? 

Whatever you want! Excursions, sightseeing, swimming 

– everything is included, no extra costs. Even public 

transportation such as buses or trains can be used all 

over Carinthia at reduced prices of up to 50 %. On certain 

leisure time and sports activities you will get a reduction 

of up to 30 %. 

Is there a WÖRTHERSEE-CARD for children as well? 

Of course there is one! Our young guests do get the card 

with all these great treats as well. Kids are entitled to the 

same benefits as adults. Those born from 1995 to 2003 get 

the children's card. Younger ones, born in or after 2004, 

have generally free admission to all sights.

How often can I use the WÖRTHERSEE-CARD? 

You can visit over 100 attractions (see the Kärnten Card 

brochure) as often as you like. 

And you can use eight public bathing beaches free-ofcharge 

from Monday to Saturday. 

There is a choice of 15 different excursions, three of them 

are included and you simply decide which ones. 

Travel by bus and train is up to 50% cheaper – all over 

Carinthia and on every trip. 

Prices are reduced of up to 30% for many sports and 

leisure facilities. No matter whether you try them once or 

use them several times. 

What is the Card worth? 

The card is worth a few hundred Euros, from that moment 

on where you use it for the first time, which will be recorded 

by an electronic system. Therefore, we suggest – be 

careful and look after it well! 

How long is the CARD valid? 

The card, you get in one of the member hotels at your arrival, 

remains valid for the duration of your stay. The card you 

purchase is valid either for 7 or for 14 days.

What happens if I lose my Card? 

If you stay in one of the member hotels and you lose your 

card, we kindly ask you to report this to your proprietor. 

You will get the card replaced. Lost cards you have purchased 

cannot be replaced. 

What happens if the Card is misused? 

In the event of misuse or suspected misuse, the 

WÖRTHERSEE-CARD PARTNERS, ARGE–VU and WTG 

are all entitled and obliged to confiscate the Card without 

substitution. The WÖRTHERSEE-CARD may not be passed 

on to third parties. Offenders will be prosecuted! 

Treat your Card like a credit or ATM card – and your 

inclusive experience will be completely free!

experience our free flying birds of prey and owls in the upcurrent of 

the famous Landskron Castle. After breathtaking flights the birds

Obir Stalactite Caves 

Austria’s most fascinating natural 

wonder. One of Carinthia’s 

most beautiful tourist attraction. 

The fascination of the Obir 

Stalactite Caves is due to the 

unequalled mix of natural and 

man-made beauty and to the 

symbiosis of a history of 200 

million years and modern technology. 

The caves were discovered in 1870 when miners were looking 

for lead and zinc. All the miners were interested in then were the 

underground tunnels created by nature because they made entry 

into the mountain easier and faster. 

Today we look in awe at a miracle; an underground world opened up 

to us for a short moment. Carefully orchestrated illumination lights 

up absolute darkness. Music breaks through the silence.

go on three excursions of your choice – and this is what

Alpine-Adriatic 3-Countries-Tour (AUT/I/SLO) 

The Alps-Adriatic adventure trip takes us into the three-country 

corner of Austria, Italy and Slovenia and the dreamy mountain 

landscape of the Julian Alps. We travel over the Loibl pass to 

Bled, Slovenia’s most picturesque village. There, we can either 

visit Bled Castle, located on top of a 100 m cliff overlooking the 

lake, or walk along Lake Bled, passing the boats, known as 

“Pletne” which take tourists from all over the world to the

Klagenfurt. To get to Carinthia’s capital city you might even take 

the boat, because we will meet at the landing stage at 11.45 am. 

We start our excursion walking uphill to the Zillhöhe, passing 

Freyenthurn and the vineyard. On top of the hill we will be rewarded 

with a fantastic view of Lake Wörthersee. We continue our 

walk towards the Kreuzbergl which offers a great view of the city

Carinthian Cider Tour 

From fruit to juice, cider and brandy

We will meet at the fire station in St. Egyden with Mr Lauritsch who 

will guide us to the starting point of our excursion (approx. 5 minutes). 

Walking along a small wooded gorge we will soon get to a 

romantic waterfall, called ‘Sreca Pec’, which is the Slovenian word 

for ‘Lucky Rock’. The total walking time is only 40 minutes. 

Afterwards we will visit Mr Lauritsch’s fruit-processing farm in St. 

Egyden. Here you can find out what happens to the fruit that grows 

in the region, such as 

apples, pears, cherries 

and plums. It is often 

used to produce cider (a 

typical slightly alcoholic 

drink), but also juices, 

various brandies – the 

local “pick-me-ups” – and 

liqueurs. Before returning

The Obir Stalactite Cavern, a subterranean adventure-park,

Carinthian Ravioli and 

Panoramic Walk

The farmer’s wife will meet us at the fire station in St. Egyden. We 

just follow her for about 5 minutes to safely get to her farm. After 

presenting the farm she will start to explain how to make curd 

cheese, one of the most important ingredients required to produce 

the world famous Carinthian style ravioli, called ‘Käsnudeln’. Under 

her guidance you will learn how to make this local speciality. Then, 

we let the ravioli cook and climb up the ‘Rupertiberg’ hill to 

enjoy the breathtaking 

panoramic view of the 

Rosental valley and the 

Karawanken mountain 

range. Our last stop will 

be at St. Lucia’s Church.

Panoramic Walk up the Gerlitzen

The Kanzelbahn gondola takes you up the sunny mountain, the 

easy way enabling us to explore the alpine terrain of the 

Gerlitzen. Here the sun shines for over 2,000 hours a year. From 

the Kanzelhöhe (1,524 metres) we head east to a holiday village. 

Narrow footpaths then lead us to the summit (1,911 metres). 

There you can take in the stunning views over all of Central 

Carinthia, the Karawanken Range, the Julian Alps and deep 

blue Lake Ossiach at the foot of the mountain. The way down 

takes us past the Stifterboden back to the Kanzelhöhe. Our total 

walking time is 3 hours and involves a difference in altitude of 

400 metres. Whoever wants to take it easy, takes the chairlift to 

the top ( H ).

Excursion to explore Pörtschach’s 

culture and nature

Walking along the beautiful Flower Promenade our first stop will be at 

the hotel Schloss Leonstain where we will visit the inner courtyard 

which displays the bust of Johannes Brahms. Afterwards we have to 

climb a few steps to reach one of the most amazing lookout points on 

Lake Wörthersee, the “Hohe Gloriette” which offers a fantastic view of 

the whole lake. Enjoy the unique panoramic view and listen to classical 

music while reading the information board which gives you interesting 

details about the life of the famous composer Johannes Brahms who 

lived in Pörtschach from 1877 to 1879. On our tour we will then pass the 

Leonstain Castle ruin and the “Pörtschacher Alm”, another important 

place on the Lake Wörthersee Hiking Trail. There, you will get an insight 

into the importance of habitat trees. Our way back will lead us through 

a romantic forest right to the Pörtschach muinicipial office, located in 

the centre where we will finish our enjoyable tour.

Gorge Römerschlucht – 

nature’s paradise on Lake Wörthersee

Today our tour is leading us to one of the most beautiful parts of the 

Lake Wörthersee Hiking Trail. We take the boat to Velden. At 9.50am we 

meet at the Velden landing stage. We start our tour, visiting the village 

with its old villas built in the famous “Wörthersee” architecture. Near 

the “Franzosenkirche”, a small church, we start our tour through the 

gorge “Römerschlucht”. It is a nice walk along a lovely brook, slightly 

ascending to the look out point. The view of Velden and the lake is fantastic. 

It does not take long to get to the “Forstsee”, a small lake where 

you will always find a nice spot for a quick bath while circling the lake. 

To get back to Velden we take the same trail. The difference in altitude 

is about 150 m, the total walking time is 3.5 hours.

Our today’s tour will lead us to the idyllic Spitnik ponds, located 610 m 

above sea level in a nature reserve, a remote area not accessible to 

cars. Starting at the landing stage in Reifnitz we have to overcome a 

short ascent until we get to the Spitnik ponds. We continue our walk 

until we get to a beautiful lookout point offering a fantastic view of 

Lake Wörthersee. Walking along an idyllic path we pass the house 

where the famous Vienna Boy’s Choir has always spent some time 

during the summer month. Walking by the Weiß ponds we return to 

Reifnitz. Maybe we are lucky to have some time left for a short break 

in the Schmankerlstub’n, a nice restaurant with great food. The total 

walking time is about 3 hours and we have to overcome a difference 

in altitude of approx. 300 m.

massive rock slab, with a diameter of 95 cm. To return to the landing 

stage in Reifnitz we take the natural path. Those who have come to 

Maria Wörth by boat, will take the same to return home. The others 

have to continue their walk until they get back to Maria Wörth. Maybe 

we have even time to take a short break in the Schmankerlstub’n, a

Nockberge Mountains, 

a paradise for excursion 

We start our excursion in St. Oswald, where we take the lift to get to 

the top (1,190 m). Then, we start walking until we get to the ‘Rote 

Burg’ (Red Castle), which is the name for a special and unique rock 

formation. We continue our walk, crossing the Arkerkopf Mountain 

and arrive at the Bockhütte, a traditional mountain hut where we 

stop for a break. From there it’s not far back to the mountain station. 

Our total walking time is approx. 3 hours and we have to overcome a 

difference in altitude of approx. 200 m. Those, who prefer just strolling 

around can stay at Lake Brunnachsee, located close to the 

mountain station, and can enjoy the fantastic view of the surrounding

The upper part of the Vorderberg Gorge can be tackled by families and 

young people from about the age of 12, especially in summer, and is 

therefore ideal for first-time canyoners. This tour includes some easy 

rock climbing and small jumps. All the equipment is provided by the 

organisers. 



Families can go into the first part of the gorge together and then split up. 

At the end of the youth canyoning tour the younger members can climb 

out of the gorge and watch the adults roping down two waterfalls from 

the path above. This gorge is also highly suitable for incentive 

programmes, as the level of difficulty can be adjusted to suit the group.

Mega Dive 

The biggest swing in the Alps - cooler than any bungee jump 

New and unique in Europe: the road through the Lesach Valley has 

always been an adventure in itself. Now it’s even better. Mounted on 

the 70-metre-high bridge in Podlanig is the largest swing in Europe – 

with thrills guaranteed. First we adjust the harness for you. Then we 

winch up the three-seater swing. All you have to do is release yourself 

to plunge down towards the valley (safely held of course by the steel 

cables). After swinging backwards and forwards several times, you will

Spend a little time of an afternoon walking through the meadows at 

Naturhof Hojoutz with the herbalist Dr. Maureen Devine. You’ll find 

dozens of species of wild vegetables and herbs that accompany us

Nostalgic Adventure 

Explore the most interesting sights of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee 

with an experienced and qualified guide. To start the expedition we 

hop on an open-topped vintage bus. Then, we continue with a scenic 

cruise on Lake Wörthersee on board of the oldest motor ship, 

the MS Loretto. We conclude our expedition ‚back in time‘, with a 

visit of the exhibition ‘Klagenfurt in former days’ at the vintage 

tram. 

Dates: June to end of August: every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

SCHIEFLING 

The house of archaeology 

With a height of 772 m Mt. Kathreinkogel is not only a prominent 

feature in the landscape of the community but also its most interesting 

cultural site. We meet at the Gasthof Kreuzwirt and take the 

hiking trail to get to the top. Walking along the trail you will learn a 

lot about the history of the mountain. In the museum all the archaeological 

finds from the 1980s are set on display. They date back to 

the Neolithic as well as Bronze Age and the late antiquity. 

On top of the mountain there are the remains of a 10,000 m² large 

fortification with an early Christian church from the 4th century. 

You can still admire the elevated presbytery, the floor pavement 

and the two cisterns to the south-west that were used to catch and 

store rainwater. 

Information: During the summer months the museum is open daily 

from 9am to 4 pm.
