ABSOLUTE BUSIINESS PROFILE 34 ABSOLUTE All it takes is a SMILE Dr Farbod Javad, of Shoreham Smile Studio tells us the secret to his success Tell us about your business: We are a private advanced cosmetic dental clinic in Sussex, using the latest imaging technology, and advanced pain free techniques, specifi cally aiming to care for dental phobic patients, offering free consultations. Clearly your business is recession proof. How would you describe the last couple of years for your business? We have not been really hit by the recession, fortunately people seem to put their teeth very high on the agenda. We have seen a defi nite increase in demand for teeth whitening. The last couple of years have been hugely successful with increased revenue, but a lot of hard work, and support from a very good team. What was key to your business surviving these testing times? We have tried to focus on local marketing within the community, local radio and supporting local charities. We also have an excellent website. What has it taught you? If you pride yourself to give a good service to existing clients, you will achieve recommendation; this is priceless, and an excellent way to generate new business. How are you currently fi nding business? Do you believe the economy is improving? Business is currently very good. We are extremely busy, enquiries are generated daily by our website and advertising; we are currently offering two late evenings a week to cope. I also believe the economy is improving slowly. What business plans, if any, do you have for the future? To continue to give the best service of my ability to all existing and new clients. Have you noticed that customers are buying/using your services in a different way now? Customers seem to pay mainly on credit cards more, and some favour fi nance loans, which we also can arrange, here at Shoreham Smile Studio, so patients can spread the cost over monthly payments. What do you think distinguishes your business from your competitors? We can offer all the latest in technology in a friendly, calming environment. Our business can be distinguished for caring for the nervous dental phobic patient, as well as offering a fi rst class cosmetic dental service. What has been the secret to your success? Hard work, good team work, determination, and always looking at new ideas and the investing in the latest dental equipment, and of course most important good customer care. What advice would you give to any aspiring entrepreneurs wanting to get started in your industry? Set your goals, work hard, and achieve! Never get complacent always look at competition out there. And fi nally, what has been the best piece of advice that has helped you and who was it from? Take every challenge as a new experience, believe in yourself and never give up.
