Social action: this refers to transformative action through ‘civil’ society<br />

(joining together with others to manage our shared lives) or ‘civic’ society<br />

(formally engaging the ruling powers or decision-makers of the<br />

community). <strong>Active</strong> <strong>Citizens</strong> encourages action that is principled, well<br />

planned and aware of global-local links.<br />

Community: Community in <strong>Active</strong> <strong>Citizens</strong> generally refers to a<br />

geographic locality (local, regional, national, international) or a community<br />

of interest (e.g. women, youth, Islam, business, arts etc.) which interact<br />

around shared interests and values.<br />
