Learning outcomes:<br />

1. Have a strong sense of our own cultures and identity.<br />

2. Have a better understanding of how our sense of identity and cultures<br />

are formed and change.<br />

3. Have curiosity and value difference.<br />

Summary: Participants explore the idea that all of us have hidden and<br />

visible parts of our identities and cultures. Participants brainstorm visible<br />

and hidden parts and consider how this has an impact on our lives.<br />

Materials: The outline drawing of the identity iceberg.<br />

Approach:<br />

1. In the activity ‘Me and My Identity’ we revealed something about<br />

ourselves to others in the group. Share the idea that we all have hidden<br />

and visible parts of our identity.<br />

2. Brainstorm with the group some of the visible and hidden parts of our<br />

identities in a triangle, like the one below:<br />

Dress, Dancing<br />

Music, Cooking<br />

Values and convictions:<br />

Gender, power, time, justice,<br />

sexuality, friendship,<br />

relationships, nature, family,<br />

modesty…<br />

Hidden<br />

Revealing more can help build<br />

trust and understanding<br />
