A George III brass miniature lantern alarm timepiece<br />

The posted movement with verge escapement and alarm<br />
sounding on a bell mounted within the domed bell bearer above<br />
the frame with ball feet, turned corner posts and vase finials<br />
flanking original foliate pierced frets to sides, the 5 inch brass<br />
break-arch dial with alarm disc and blued steel hand to the<br />
matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter<br />
ring with short cruciform half hour markers and unusual female<br />
mask and scroll cast spandrels to angles, the arch with circular<br />
silvered boss signed Benj’n Maude, London flanked by mask and<br />
scroll mounts, the rear with integral hanging loop extension to top<br />
plate and threaded feet to take steel wall spikes, 19cm (7.5ins)<br />
high; in a later, (probably 19th century) stained figured birch<br />
hooded wall case with rounded pagoda pediment and cavetto<br />
moulded break-arch cornice, 37.5cm (14.75ins) high overall.<br />
Benjamin Maude is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers &<br />
Clockmakers of the World as apprenticed in 1760, gaining his<br />
freedom by 1782 and working in London until his death in 1819.<br />

A Charles II patinated brass ‘wing’ lantern clock<br />
Unsigned, circa 1685<br />
The posted countwheel bell-striking movement with verge<br />
escapement and pendulum with anchor shaped bob swinging<br />
within the frame of the clock between the trains, the dial with<br />
alarm disc to the tulip and foliate scroll engraved centre, with<br />
iron hand and applied Roman numeral chapter ring with<br />
stylised fleur-de-lys half hour markers, the standard London<br />
third period ‘Lothbury’ frame with column turned corner posts<br />
beneath dolphin engraved and pierced frets, vase finials and<br />
domed bell bearer, the side doors applied with shaped<br />
pendulum projections capped with further foliate pierced and<br />
engraved frets, the rear with iron hanging loop and brass<br />
backplate (alarm removed, with restoration and replacements),<br />
39cm (15.5cm) high.<br />
