Extra requirements<br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Film <strong>and</strong> Television<br />
selection process includes a test for all<br />
applicants, in which you are required to:<br />
> Write a story outline for a five-minute<br />
film aimed at testing your ability to<br />
create an original <strong>and</strong> engaging<br />
narrative<br />
> Complete a sequence <strong>of</strong> images<br />
illustrating a dramatic theme by <strong>visual</strong><br />
means<br />
> Provide a statement outlining the<br />
skills <strong>and</strong> potential, which you believe<br />
demonstrate your suitability for<br />
undertaking this course.<br />
Applicants are given a choice <strong>of</strong> three<br />
topics in the test <strong>and</strong> have approximately<br />
one month to complete it. Following<br />
assessment <strong>of</strong> the test, selected<br />
applicants attend an interview where<br />
you have the opportunity to provide<br />
further evidence <strong>of</strong> your suitability<br />
for the course. You will be expected<br />
to bring examples <strong>of</strong> creative output,<br />
ideally a short (5–7-minute) video or<br />
film. Interviews are conducted in late<br />
November.<br />

Choose Film <strong>and</strong> Television at<br />
<strong>Melbourne</strong><br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Film <strong>and</strong> Television<br />
gives students the skills to create screen<br />
programs with high artistic <strong>and</strong> technical<br />
st<strong>and</strong>ards. Students are encouraged to<br />
be innovative, to experiment, to explore<br />
ideas <strong>and</strong> develop the expertise to express<br />
ideas for an audience. Students gain a<br />
broad underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> the motion picture<br />
industry <strong>and</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> world<br />
cinema.<br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Film <strong>and</strong> Television<br />
promotes independent learning with a<br />
large component <strong>of</strong> the course focused<br />
on practical screen production. Students<br />
develop production skills with a special<br />
emphasis on screenwriting, direction <strong>and</strong><br />
editing. The degree produces graduates<br />
who can generate <strong>and</strong> develop ideas <strong>and</strong><br />
who have a comprehensive underst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />
<strong>of</strong> the specialist skills <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> craft<br />
areas.<br />
Support <strong>and</strong> facilities<br />
Film <strong>and</strong> Television is located at the Faculty<br />
<strong>of</strong> the VCA <strong>and</strong> Music Southbank campus<br />
in a modern, purpose-designed building,<br />
with equipment for industry-st<strong>and</strong>ard<br />
production <strong>and</strong> post-production together<br />
with fully equipped animation <strong>and</strong> <strong>visual</strong><br />
effects studios. There are two film studios,<br />
