The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Fine Art selection<br />
process includes an interview <strong>and</strong> folio<br />
presentation, where you are expected<br />
to show evidence <strong>of</strong> artistic potential,<br />
imagination <strong>and</strong> your experience <strong>and</strong><br />
competence in the production <strong>of</strong> objects<br />
<strong>and</strong> images. Intending students usually<br />
need to concentrate their studies in<br />
<strong>visual</strong> art subjects. This will enable the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> vision <strong>and</strong> skills with a<br />
suitable folio. Interviews are conducted<br />
in late November.<br />

Choose Fine Art at <strong>Melbourne</strong><br />
The School <strong>of</strong> Art provides studio <strong>and</strong><br />
workshop facilities which <strong>of</strong>fer you the<br />
opportunity to explore both traditional <strong>and</strong><br />
new media under the guidance <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong><br />
Australia’s most progressive art educators<br />
<strong>and</strong> respected artists. The Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />
Fine Art <strong>of</strong>fers Studio Programs with an<br />
academic focus in drawing, printmaking,<br />
painting, photography <strong>and</strong> sculpture <strong>and</strong><br />
spatial practice. The three-year program<br />
aims to create an environment that fosters<br />
<strong>and</strong> promotes the advancement <strong>of</strong> practice<br />
<strong>and</strong> theory in the <strong>visual</strong> <strong>arts</strong>.<br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Fine Art at the Faculty<br />
<strong>of</strong> the VCA <strong>and</strong> Music has consistently<br />
produced exciting <strong>and</strong> committed artists.<br />
Many graduates have established national<br />
<strong>and</strong> international pr<strong>of</strong>iles, <strong>and</strong> a number<br />
<strong>of</strong> alumni have been awarded Australia’s<br />
most prestigious art prizes: Lewis Miller<br />
was the winner <strong>of</strong> the 1998 Archibald Prize<br />
for Portraiture; Marcus Wills won the Brett<br />
Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 1999<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Archibald Prize in 2006; in 1999<br />
Ricky Swallow received Australia’s richest<br />
contemporary art award, the Contempora 5,<br />
<strong>and</strong> was named by Australian Art Collector<br />
magazine as Australia’s Most Collectable<br />
Artist; Patricia Piccinini represented<br />
Australia at the 50th Venice Biennale <strong>of</strong><br />
Art in 2003; Ricky Swallow represented<br />

Support <strong>and</strong> facilities<br />
The School <strong>of</strong> Art occupies a customdesigned<br />
studio complex which has<br />
immediate access to Victoria’s most<br />
important art venues. The School <strong>of</strong> Art<br />
also houses the Student Gallery <strong>and</strong> the<br />
Margaret Lawrence Gallery: a public art<br />
space which performs an integral <strong>and</strong><br />
critical function within the community as a<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional exhibiting space for graduate<br />
<strong>and</strong> alumni work; School <strong>of</strong> Art studio<br />
projects; artists in-residence; Art staff<br />
work; as well as independent local <strong>and</strong><br />
international exhibitions.<br />
The C>LAB is the multimedia hub <strong>of</strong><br />
the School <strong>of</strong> Art. Within its walls is the<br />
cutting-edge equipment required for any<br />
contemporary <strong>arts</strong> practice: DVD authoring;<br />
digital video editing <strong>and</strong> creation; high-end<br />
scanning; <strong>and</strong> large-scale archival printing.<br />
