Arts encompasses all <strong>of</strong> the course<br />
<strong>of</strong>ferings for undergraduate <strong>and</strong> graduate<br />

students within Dance, Theatre <strong>and</strong><br />
Production. Dedicated to rigorous creative<br />
exploration in t<strong>and</strong>em with technique<br />
training <strong>and</strong> skills development across each<br />
<strong>of</strong> the disciplines, the School <strong>of</strong> Performing<br />
Arts advances the contemporary practice<br />
<strong>and</strong> creative heritage <strong>of</strong> live art through<br />
intensive, h<strong>and</strong>s on experience with<br />
teachers, artists <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in the<br />
field.<br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Production educates<br />
students in the various roles <strong>of</strong> performance<br />
production including set, costume, lighting<br />
<strong>and</strong> sound design, workshop, wardrobe,<br />
stage <strong>and</strong> production management.<br />
Students apply knowledge gained in the<br />
studio to practical projects generated both<br />
within the Faculty <strong>and</strong> beyond.<br />
The course is unique in that it provides<br />
students with the opportunity to participate<br />
in productions staged both on the campus<br />
(collaborations with Dance, Theatre, Music,<br />
Film <strong>and</strong> Television <strong>and</strong> Art projects) <strong>and</strong><br />
beyond the campus (collaborations with<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional companies <strong>and</strong> other training<br />
institutions). Given the breadth <strong>of</strong> projects<br />
in the performance calendar, students<br />
may expect to be working on a variety <strong>of</strong><br />
performance forms in a range <strong>of</strong> capacities<br />
in any one year.<br />
The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Production develops<br />
students’ collaborative skills <strong>and</strong> the<br />
ability to adapt them to a wide range <strong>of</strong><br />
structures. Creative problem solving <strong>and</strong><br />
articulate communication across art forms<br />
<strong>and</strong> personalities, in addition to developing<br />
relationships for creating <strong>and</strong> securing<br />
properties, costume <strong>and</strong> scenic elements<br />
within the campus <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional sector<br />
alike, are key aspects <strong>of</strong> the course.<br />
Students have the opportunity for<br />
secondments within the industry, a unique<br />
feature <strong>of</strong> the degree which links students<br />
with a network <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals within their<br />
chosen field. Visiting artists production <strong>and</strong><br />
design pr<strong>of</strong>essionals frequent the School,<br />
<strong>and</strong> are integral to the curriculum.<br />
Support <strong>and</strong> facilities<br />
Staff in the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Production include<br />
leading teachers/practitioners across the six<br />
streams <strong>of</strong> study within the degree. Visiting<br />
lecturers also contribute to the teaching<br />
program.<br />
The School <strong>of</strong> Performing Arts has<br />
strong links with the local <strong>and</strong> national<br />
performance community through its<br />
position in the heart <strong>of</strong> <strong>Melbourne</strong>’s cultural<br />
precinct. Staff are encouraged to maintain<br />
