Dear Parishioners;
I hope that you will consider attending our parish
“Hymn-Sing” on Feb 19 at 4:30 PM in the Worship
Center. Our parish is blessed with a very wonderful
music ministry who work very hard to make our
worship up-lifting and liturgically appropriate. They
out-do themselves on special celebrations like
Christmas and Easter, but also provide beautiful music
every weekend. Believe me; I’ve been to other
parishes where the music is not so well done. It would
be great if we could support this fun and less formal
opportunity of our music ministers.
The hymn sing will give all of us an opportunity to
sing some of our favorite hymns and spiritual songs.
Since it is not a liturgical celebration, we can sing
songs of any season or theme. We have a wonderful
singing parish, so come show off your voice. Or, if
you are not a great singer, come just to listen and
enjoy. I look forward to seeing you at our first ever
parish Hymn-Sing!

Tell Congress to Respect Religious Freedom in
Health Care Reform
Our religious liberty is being threatened by the US
Department of Health and Human Services, which
is mandating that all private health insurance plans
cover sterilization, abortifacients, and
contraception.
It is critical that Congress pass the Respect for
Rights of Conscience Act to end this unprecedented
threat.
As noted by the Washington Post editorial,
“Requiring a religiously affiliated employer to
spend its own money in a way that violates its
religious principles does not make an adequate
accommodation for those deeply held views.”

ministry that is open to all parishioners and can be
done individually or as a couple or family at the Mass
that you routinely attend each week.
The requires are very easy:
1) arrive ½ hour before Mass begins;
2) smile, greet, welcome and distribute worship aids
to fellow parishioners and guests as they arrive;
3) after Mass pick up worship aids and put back on
table in Narthex for next Mass;

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT: The
Scripture readings for this weekend, and
particularly the gospel, should be our
spiritual guide as we make our way to
the Easter Triduum, the feast of the
Passover of the Lord. We should carry
the Sunday gospel with us throughout the week.
The gospel records that Jesus overcame the
temptations in the desert. This gospel gives us
confidence that we too, living in the Spirit and
journeying together through the forty days of Lent,
can overcome those things that continue to lure us
away from a deeper communion with our God.
This week is a good time for us to reflect on
what the spiritual issues are in our own lives. Once
we identify them more clearly, we can subject them to
the power of the Holy Spirit, who will draw us closer
to the Lord.

March 1 st One Death Too Many 7-8:30pm
FOUR youth from Harford County have died in the last
couple months due to drugs. The Harford Area Youth
Ministers (HAY) invite parents and youth in grades 8-12
to John Carroll High School for an interactive session on
how to prepare youth to face the challenge of a drug
free future. The Harford County Office of Drug Control
Policy will do a brief presentation and community
resources will be available. Door Prizes, snacks, and

(SPIRITUAL)
SFDS High School youth and young adults are invited to
join over 1,000 others from the Archdiocese of
Baltimore, for a pilgrimage commemorating Jesus’
entrance into Jerusalem at the beginning of Holy Week.
Join us in a 4-mile walk carrying palms and a cross
through the streets of Baltimore from the Basilica
through the Inner Harbor to St. Casmir’s Church in
Caton. Cost is $20 plus a permission slip. A bus will
depart SFDS at 10:30am returning approximately 10pm.

Help is needed to stuff Easter Eggs for the annual parish

FAITH SHARING LENTEN SMALL GROUPS
Put your faith into action by joining a Lenten small
group. After each Mass today, a Connections
committee member will be happy to talk with you
about this experience. Materials are available to
check out. Spend the weeks of Lent with other like
minded folks and discuss the Sunday scripture
readings. You don’t have to be an expert or be well
versed in Bible study. These groups will give you an
opportunity to share what the Sunday readings say to
you and provide suggestions for putting God’s word
into daily action. Groups forming now are:

In offering support to parents dealing with concerns that present themselves when a son or daughter
informs them of a homosexual orientation, our Catholic Bishops state: “You need not face this painful

What is This Thing Called Prayer?
