20 volunteers Doris McMillan Margaret Cain a new era of helping Doris McMillan Honored For Volunteerism Many elements encompass the art of quilt making. Besides the materials and the know-how, quilt making requires much time, love and dedication. Doris McMillan of Jackson has made and donated numerous quilts to the Hospital Foundation. Her involvement in the Quilt Program has affected the lives of parents and children throughout the region. Doris worked at Southeast Hospital for 29 years. She is a member of the Quarter Century Society, a group of past and present Southeast employees who have met or exceeded 25 years of service to Southeast. She is a Bronze Arrow Partner in the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation Million Dollar Club and a former 4-H volunteer. Doris is a member of the Southeast Hospital Auxiliary and has given 1,937 hours since early 2000. In addition, Doris has worked 11 years helping organize and coordinate the annual Pennies from Heaven Auction. Doris has also made and donated quilts for the annual Horse Show which benefits the Southeast Youth Diabetes program and for the auction which benefits the We Can Weekend, a retreat for cancer patients and families. Her volunteerism doesn’t stop there, but continues at HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson. Doris is a valued volunteer and Southeast deeply appreciates her gifts of time and talent. Foundation Is One of Many Benefits for Employees of SoutheastHEALTH On December 26, 2009 SoutheastHEALTH employee Margaret Cain suffered a stroke which left her with more than her health problems. It left her without the ability to work and provide for her family. Margaret was contacted by Southeast Social Services to offer her a grant from the Foundation. Margaret gratefully accepted the Foundation grant and used it to pay her health insurance premium to retain her ability to receive the medical care she so desperately needed. Margaret comments that “giving to employees in a time of crisis helps them to succeed. The Foundation is one of the benefits that is available to the employees of SoutheasHEALTH. When someone experiences a crisis in his or her life, you can pull the cornerstone out from under them, or ensure that it is solidly in place to support them. The Foundation was my cornerstone. They helped save my life.” Margaret is happily back at work at Southeast today and is doing well. She has recovered from her stroke and feels blessed to be part of the Southeast family.
