Foundation Board
Carol served as President for two years,
providing guidance and council for the
smooth functioning of the Foundation. She
has also worked golf tournaments in sweltering
heat and violent rain storms, organized fundraising
events, made donor calls and so much more.
Carol says “It is most gratifying to see how the
Foundation has assisted in helping to grow the
services of Southeast for our community. Southeast
has achieved the status as a very valued
member of our community to provide quality
healthcare and healthcare services dedicated to
helping those we serve.”
Carol also volunteers with many other organizations
with the same dedication and passion she
gives to all she does. Based upon her love of the
arts, Carol served six years on the Board of
Directors for the Arts Council of Southeast
Missouri. In 1980, Carol began volunteering
with the Cape Girardeau County Area Medical
Society. In 1981, Carol felt a need to lend a hand
through the Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary,
and volunteered in the Auxiliary Gift Shop.
In 1988, Carol and her husband, Dr. Tom
Sparkman, began volunteering for SEMO
District Fair as Co-Chairmen of the Grandstand
volunteers. Carol and Tom were awarded the
SEMO District Fair Volunteer of the Year in 2003
for their many years of dedicated service. Carol’s
church is another area for which she felt a strong
calling to offer her time and talents. She has
served on the St. Andrew Lutheran Board of
Directors since 2004, and as the Director of
Fellowship.
Carol’s vision has made a positive impact upon
our community through her efforts with service
projects and role modeling. Carol is a self-effacing
individual whose placid nature and easy going
manner conceals a passionate heart dedicated to
helping others. Carol exemplifies the concept that
we are all responsible for giving back and “paying
forward” some of the blessings that have been
bestowed upon us.
Carol possesses the courage to stand for what she
believes; the passion to make a difference; the faith
to see the best in all people; and the knowledge
and skills to accomplish goals. The truth is…we are
all a little better from having Carol touch our lives.
