1 Introduction<br />

1.1 Application and request for assessment<br />

In the letter dated 17.02.2006, the company Hilti (Schweiz) AG, 8134 Adliswil,<br />

Switzerland, applied to the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Defence, Infrastructure<br />

(BABS IS), 3003 Berne, for extension <strong>of</strong> approval BZS D 00-233 for the Hilti HSC safety<br />

anchor. Consequently, BABS IS, in order BABS-IS 06-020 dated March 9, 2006, applied<br />

to the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Defence, Laboratory Spiez (BABS LS) for retesting<br />

<strong>of</strong> this anchor fastener. In the letter dated 26.04.2006, the coordinating department <strong>of</strong><br />

Laboratory Spiez requested the assessors to draw up a test program for the anchor<br />

shock load testing. On the basis <strong>of</strong> the BABS report “Testing and approval <strong>of</strong> anchor<br />

systems”, dated May 5, 2006, the assessors prepared the test program, dated May 3,<br />

2006, for type acceptance testing <strong>of</strong> the Hilti HSC safety anchor system.<br />

1.2 Anchor shock load testing<br />

Testing department STS 055 <strong>of</strong> the Laboratory Spiez carried out the practical anchor<br />

shock load testing <strong>of</strong> the Hilti HSC safety anchor on June 6, 2006. The tests were carried<br />

out using galvanized (electroplated) steel anchors <strong>of</strong> the M8x40 size. The results <strong>of</strong> the<br />

anchor shock load tests are listed in test report AGEW no. 2006-011 issued by the<br />

testing department.<br />

1.3 Basic principles<br />

The basic principles applicable to practical anchor shock load testing and evaluation<br />

within the scope <strong>of</strong> this assessment are to be found in the report “Testing and approval<br />

<strong>of</strong> anchor systems” issued by the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Defence, dated May 5,<br />

2006, and in the European Technical <strong>Approval</strong> (ETA) documents listed below:<br />

– ETA-02/0027:<br />

Hilti HSC anchor, self-undercutting galvanized steel anchor in the sizes M6, M8,<br />

M10 and M12 for setting in concrete<br />

Period <strong>of</strong> validity: 20.09.2002 to 20.09.2007<br />

– ETA-02/0028:<br />

Hilti HSC-R anchor, self-undercutting stainless steel anchor in the sizes M6, M8,<br />

M10 and M12 for setting in concrete<br />

Period <strong>of</strong> validity 20.09.2002 to 20.09.2007<br />
