Hilti HSC / HSC-R safety anchor Page 3 of 11 Assessment report for approval Report no. 7517.02 1 Introduction 1.1 Application and request for assessment In the letter dated 17.02.2006, the company Hilti (Schweiz) AG, 8134 Adliswil, Switzerland, applied to the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Defence, Infrastructure (BABS IS), 3003 Berne, for extension of approval BZS D 00-233 for the Hilti HSC safety anchor. Consequently, BABS IS, in order BABS-IS 06-020 dated March 9, 2006, applied to the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Defence, Laboratory Spiez (BABS LS) for retesting of this anchor fastener. In the letter dated 26.04.2006, the coordinating department of Laboratory Spiez requested the assessors to draw up a test program for the anchor shock load testing. On the basis of the BABS report “Testing and approval of anchor systems”, dated May 5, 2006, the assessors prepared the test program, dated May 3, 2006, for type acceptance testing of the Hilti HSC safety anchor system. 1.2 Anchor shock load testing Testing department STS 055 of the Laboratory Spiez carried out the practical anchor shock load testing of the Hilti HSC safety anchor on June 6, 2006. The tests were carried out using galvanized (electroplated) steel anchors of the M8x40 size. The results of the anchor shock load tests are listed in test report AGEW no. 2006-011 issued by the testing department. 1.3 Basic principles The basic principles applicable to practical anchor shock load testing and evaluation within the scope of this assessment are to be found in the report “Testing and approval of anchor systems” issued by the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Defence, dated May 5, 2006, and in the European Technical Approval (ETA) documents listed below: – ETA-02/0027: Hilti HSC anchor, self-undercutting galvanized steel anchor in the sizes M6, M8, M10 and M12 for setting in concrete Period of validity: 20.09.2002 to 20.09.2007 – ETA-02/0028: Hilti HSC-R anchor, self-undercutting stainless steel anchor in the sizes M6, M8, M10 and M12 for setting in concrete Period of validity 20.09.2002 to 20.09.2007 Bürkel Baumann Schuler Ingenieure und Planer AG Gertrudstrasse 17 CH-8400 Winterthur � www.bbs-ing.ch
Hilti HSC / HSC-R safety anchor Page 4 of 11 Assessment report for approval Report no. 7517.02 2 Description of the anchor 2.1 Appearance, function and installation procedure The Hilti HSC safety anchor is a self-undercutting anchor featuring movementcontrolled expansion. The internally threaded version of the anchor (HSC-I) consists of a tapered shank and expansion sleeve or, in the case of the externally threaded type (HSC-A), a tapered shank, expansion sleeve, a washer and a hexagonal nut. During installation, the anchor is set in a cylindrical hole created by drilling. The anchor expands as the expansion sleeve is forced over the tapered shank and, in doing so, forms an undercut in the wall of the hole. The anchor thus gains a secure keyed hold in the hole. The following versions of the anchor were tested for the purpose of this assessment: – Hilti HSC safety anchor Tapered shank, expansion sleeve, washer and hexagonal nut made from galvanized steel, with a minimum zinc coating thickness of 5 µm – Hilti HSC-R safety anchor Tapered shank, expansion sleeve, washer and hexagonal nut made from stainless steel, material no. 1.4401 or 1.4571 2.3 Anchor types The Hilti HSC safety anchor is available as an externally threaded stud-type anchor or as an internally threaded sleeve-type anchor. Both anchor types, in galvanized steel and in stainless steel, are covered by this assessment: – HSC-A / HSC-AR stud anchor Stud-type anchor consisting of an externally threaded tapered shank, an expansion sleeve, a washer and a hexagonal nut. – HSC-I / HSC-IR internally threaded anchor Internally threaded anchor consisting of an internally threaded tapered sleeve and an expansion sleeve.
