Quality Control/Quality Assurance Plans, Practices, and Techniques
Moffatt & Nichol is committed to the
principles of Quality Control/Quality
Assurance and Cost Control in our work
product. Firmwide, we have established
quality control guidelines which have
been published in the firm’s Quality
Manual.
It is standard practice for each project
manager to prepare a project-specific
quality plan at the start of each job to
ensure that the process will be tailored
to the unique demands of each project.
The Process
A typical process flow plan is shown
below. In our continuous effort to
employ the principles of performing
quality work in our overall management
of the firm, we are actively engaged
on a day-to-day basis in the following
practices:
• All structure works include
preparation of independent
calculations by personnel not
involved with the design. All other
projects require an independent
check of calculations.
• Recruitment and retention of highly
qualified engineers and support
personnel.
• The use of specialized, highly
qualified subconsultants, with whom
we have a successful track record of
teaming partnerships.
• Project Principal hands-on
involvement in every project.
• Project execution by experienced
project manager.
• Commitment of skilled
management, technical and support
personnel.
• Independent review of project
plans and work provided by senior
engineering and construction
personnel.

With advent of new technologies and
shared Internet work space, Moffatt &
Nichol has established a project web site
system to provide our project teams with
access to real-time, living documents
and drawings. The advantage to the
client is our ability to share information
(drawings, notes, calculations, and
e-mail) with our team organization as
well as with the client. Project activities
managed on the shared website allow for
real-time communication and enhanced
project understanding.
