This interpretation was observed to be correct when, on November 5,<br />

11)59, the <strong>fi</strong>rst hole drilled into the western end of the zone pierced a<br />

chromite deposit twenty meters thick; and it was further veri<strong>fi</strong>ed in other<br />

parts of this long and narrow anomaly zone, as all twenty-six drillholes<br />

made by the Geological Survey within the anomaly zone have proved the<br />

occurrence of chromite.<br />

On the basis of the drillings carried out by the Ore Department between<br />

October 25, 1959 and April 30, 1960, the thickness of the chromite deposit<br />

included in the geophysical anomaly sequence varies between twenty and<br />

100 meters and it may be estimated to contain 17.5 million tons of over<br />

20 % and 4.4 million tons of over 30 % chromium ore. On the basis of<br />

analyses performed at the Geological Survey, the chromium-iron ratio<br />

of the portions investigated is relatively low, varying around 0.840-l.87.
