QUALIFICATION Two years Buchen training-center in Schwedt BALANCE AND PROSPECTS On the premises of the PCK Refinery in Schwedt (Oder), the Buchen Group has been training specialists for piping, canal and industrial services in their own training center since 2008. With the training center, the Buchen Group bundled all previous training competencies at a central location and thus guaranteed the growing demand for competent, qualified and well trained employees. After 15 months of theoretical basic training in the Buchen training center in Schwedt, the first training class of specialists for piping, canal and industrial service began the practical phase of their training in the past December. As of now, 13 trainees have gathered practical experience in everyday work at the locations in Stade, Duisburg, Cologne, Karlsruhe, Merseburg or Schwedt. After this, all trainees will change again to get to know other special areas within Buchen. The resonance of the aspiring specialists for piping, canal and industrial service in regards to the prior process of their training at Buchen has been positive. Beginning fears of uncertainty were quickly done away 10 with through the friendly cooperation of the Buchen employees. Particularly also for contact with colleagues, the work in teams “hand in hand” and the large variety of special areas at Buchen also provided for diversity, fun and motivation. “Above all, the work attitude was amazing among the young men”, according to the trainer Heiko Eckner from Schwedt. “Everybody liked to come to work on time, regularly wrote in their reports and were 100% up to their training.” The trainees from the second training year, who began in September 2009, are also motivated and ready for action. The trainer Heiko Eckner and his colleague Ralph Kniebel are already planning on having more experience in the basic training Trainees for the specialist areas of piping, canal and industrial service in the Schwedt training center for the future. This can, for example, occur through the acquisition of personal factory benches or in the form of internships with other training operations. Furthermore, an even stronger integration of the UBV (Ückermärkischer Bildungsverbund gGmbH) is planned. For the new training year, all 20 training spaces could be assigned at six recruitment events, so-called trainee checks. The goal for the coming years is to keep the number of new training positions at 20 annually. On behalf of the entire Buchen Group, we look forward to our new trainees, who will begin their training on August 30, 2010 in Schwedt.
INNOVATION Manway Cannon, Mover Cannon and Dozer NEW ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY TECHNOL- OGY FOR INTERIOR TANK CLEANING During tank cleaning, the Buchen Tank- and TurnaroundService GmbH uses modern, automated cleaning systems based on the size and type of tank that has to be cleaned. In addition to the proven closed BTS tank cleaning procedure, this includes innovative technical systems like the Manway Cannon, the Mover Cannon and the Dozer, which will be introduced in short here. Manway Cannon The Manway Cannon is used for the cleaning of product tanks with a diameter of up to 65 meters. The cleaning cannon is equipped with an integrated camera and spotlight system for monitoring the entire cleaning process. In the control room, which is located in the control container, the entire cleaning process is monitored through monitors. Mover Cannon The Mover Cannon system is a remotely controlled tractor-dread vehicle with a mounted cleaning canon, consisting of a camera, spotlight system and cleaning nozzle. Through the implementation of the overview camera the operator receives an optimal overall picture of the tank to be cleaned. Through this, a better orientation in the tank is made possible. In big tanks you can clean well-directed the parts where residual products are present. The entire cleaning process is also controlled and monitored from the control container. Dozer The Dozer is used for the cleaning of storage tanks where no automatic tank cleaning is required and also after the automatic cleaning of crude oil tanks where there are inorganic remains like sand and rust.
