COMMITTEES’ REPORTS
GENERAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
The General Affairs Committee was headed by the
Honorary Secretary, Mr Patrick Phoon. Under his
direction, all matters pertaining to the Association’s
public relations, collaterals, social activities and the
Secretariat’s administrative affairs came under his
area of responsibility.
• Membership
As of 31 May 2010, Membership of the SSA stood
at 376 members, of whom 229 are Ordinary
Members, 145 are Associate Members and 2 are
Individual Members. The Association also has 2
Honorary Members, namely, Mr Yeo Cheow Tong
and Mr Ong Kok Wah.
The Association welcomed 30 new members
into the Association in 2009. During the same
period, 15 members had resigned. In this regard,
the Association wishes to acknowledge the past
support and contributions of these members
who have resigned, and wish them well in their
endeavours.
• Young Executives Group Sub-Committee
The Young Executives Group (YEG) continues
to enjoy strong support from SSA member
companies, with over 600 YEG members as of 31
May 2010. Since it was established in 2005, the
YEG has encouraged young shipping executives to
develop a greater awareness of and participation
in the Association’s activities with a view towards
nurturing future leaders for the Association.
In July 2009, the YEG was formalised as a Sub-
Committee under the auspices of the General
Affairs Committee. At its first meeting, Ms Katie
Men of Farglory Holdings Pte Ltd, Mr Ng Ee Ping
of Kontiki Shipping Pte Ltd and Ms Agnes Chua of
Island Shipbrokers Pte Ltd were elected as Vice
Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively by
their fellow Sub-Committee members.
