GENERAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE<br />
The General Affairs Committee was headed by the<br />
Honorary Secretary, Mr Patrick Phoon. Under his<br />
direction, all matters pertaining to the <strong>Association</strong>’s<br />
public relations, collaterals, social activities and the<br />
Secretariat’s administrative affairs came under his<br />
area of responsibility.<br />
• Membership<br />
As of 31 May 20<strong>10</strong>, Membership of the <strong>SSA</strong> stood<br />
at 376 members, of whom 229 are Ordinary<br />
Members, 145 are Associate Members and 2 are<br />
Individual Members. The <strong>Association</strong> also has 2<br />
Honorary Members, namely, Mr Yeo Cheow Tong<br />
and Mr Ong Kok Wah.<br />
The <strong>Association</strong> welcomed 30 new members<br />
into the <strong>Association</strong> in 20<strong>09</strong>. During the same<br />
period, 15 members had resigned. In this regard,<br />
the <strong>Association</strong> wishes to acknowledge the past<br />
support and contributions of these members<br />
who have resigned, and wish them well in their<br />
endeavours.<br />
• Young Executives Group Sub-Committee<br />
The Young Executives Group (YEG) continues<br />
to enjoy strong support from <strong>SSA</strong> member<br />
companies, with over 600 YEG members as of 31<br />
May 20<strong>10</strong>. Since it was established in 2005, the<br />
YEG has encouraged young shipping executives to<br />
develop a greater awareness of and participation<br />
in the <strong>Association</strong>’s activities with a view towards<br />
nurturing future leaders for the <strong>Association</strong>.<br />
In July 20<strong>09</strong>, the YEG was formalised as a Sub-<br />
Committee under the auspices of the General<br />
Affairs Committee. At its first meeting, Ms Katie<br />
Men of Farglory Holdings Pte Ltd, Mr Ng Ee Ping<br />
of Kontiki <strong>Shipping</strong> Pte Ltd and Ms Agnes Chua of<br />
Island Shipbrokers Pte Ltd were elected as Vice<br />
Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively by<br />
their fellow Sub-Committee members.
