SSA ANNUAL REVIEW 2009/2010
ACTIVITIES REPORT
• Relations with Local Bodies
The SSA continued to maintain strong working
relationships with the various relevant government
agencies, which include the Maritime and Port
Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Singapore
Customs (SC), the Immigration and Checkpoints
Authority (ICA), the Republic of Singapore Navy
(RSN), the Police Coast Guard (PCG) and other
related government agencies.
Dialogue sessions are organised frequently to
establish strong communication bonds between
SSA and the various agencies to ensure there is
a common understanding of the needs and issues
within the industry. In particular, SSA engaged
the RSN Information Fusion Centre (IFC) on 8
January 2010 in dialogue on how best to enhance
Singapore’s abilities to combat the increasing
maritime security threats and challenges with real
time information.
SSA is also represented on the board, advisory
committees and working committees of several
government statutory departments. Likewise, some
of these government agencies are also invited to
participate in several SSA Committees
as Observers.
The Association has also continued to maintain
close working relationships with other maritimerelated
organisations like the Singapore
Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU), the Singapore
Organisation of Seamen (SOS), the Singapore
National Shippers’ Council (SNSC), the Singapore
Maritime Academy (SMA), Association of Singapore
Marine Industries (ASMI), the Singapore Chamber
of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) and the Singapore
Maritime Foundation (SMF).
Together with ASMI, MPA, SMF and other
stakeholders under the MaritimeONE umbrella
and initiatives, the SSA plays a strong and active
role in promoting and elevating the profile of the
maritime industry to young shipping executives and
undergraduates from the local institutes of
higher learning.
