Education and insurance top the list of reason techs should join the California Cosmetology Association (CCA). “There are six educational events off ered every year to all our members throughout the state of California. We also typically coordinate student competitions as we know they are the future beauty professionals,” says Mary Lou Amaro, state president of the CCA. In addition, one of the association’s main functions is to be the legislative watchdog for the industry. “Laws may be enforced in Sacramento without our knowledge that could have a tremendous impact on our business,” says Amaro. “It is our duty to keep our professionals updated and represented when issues arise as well as come together when we need to veto a bill.” Insurance is often an out-of-pocket expense when working in a salon and is more costly on an individual plan. “Under a group plan, you can purchase insurance at an aff ordable rate and without an examination so no one who applies will be denied,” says Amaro. The CND Shellac Salon Certifi cation program will assure salon customers across the U.S. that their Shellac services are authentic and of the highest quality. The certifi cation program will inspect and showcase salons that provide quality Shellac services. Certifi ed salons will be listed on CND’s Find a Salon Locator, receive free Shellac salon merchandising materials, and have the opportunity to participate in other business-building programs. To be certifi ed, a CND representative will visit the salon and review protocol as well as educate salon employees on CND services. In addition, the salon must fulfi ll the following requirements: > Use the full Shellac system and Brisa or CND UV Lamp (no mixing brands) > No fi ling of the natural nail surface during application or removal > Removal with CND Shellac Wraps (or foil and cotton) and pure acetone (no soaking in a bowl) > Proper manicure preparation using ScrubFresh > 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove the tacky layer > SolarOil application to condition the nail and cuticle area at end of the service “The implementation of CND’s Shellac Salon Certifi cation Program will ensure the ultimate experience for clients and will provide a great incentive to nail professionals to provide exemplary Shellac services,” says CND founder Jan Arnold. Salons wishing to receive certifi cation are required to register on the Shellac Salon Registration page on www.cnd.com.
